Cynthia- The image I have with Barbarella (besides those lovely cellophane outfits on Jane) is those scary chomping metal teeth dolls. To this day I will never be able to forget those dolls!
My first knee jerk answer to the question was ‘Harvey’. I’m still in love with Jimmy Stewart. I almost said ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ but the depression scenes would be too much for me right now; however, having an angel like Clarence would be nice.
Then I went to ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ because of the beautiful portrayal of the tightly woven tapestry between women and their friends. I closely relate to Idge. Actually, when the movie came out I had a handful of friends tell me that her character reminded them of me.
Great question! …I’m sure through out the day films will be swimming around in the pond I call my brain. Surely by evening I will have thought of many more.
Good choice, Josie. I loved “Fried Green Tomatoes” for all your fine reasons. I have read the book many times and I think my favorite line is, when Ruth is dying and Sipsey says (and I paraphrase) “Ruth was a lady, and a lady always knows when it’s time to leave”.
Peg O- I love that line also! This is the one movie that I saw multiple times in the theater. The scene you quote from is so sad that I still cry even though I know it so well I can say the lines along with actresses. Oh, and Peg I love your Peter Max avatar!
What about the scene where the two young girls steal Evelyn’s space in the parking lot? The two girls yell out to her “Face it lady, we’re younger and faster than you”. Whereupon, Evelyn is SOMAD she begins ramming their car repeatedly and tells them “Face it, girls, I’m older and have more insurance”. The look on her face is priceless!! Not to mention THEIR faces.
I agree that Fanny Flagg is fabulous. Early on in her career she was living in NYC. A couple of my friends were in the neighborhood one night, decided to stop by her apartment for a surprise visit, and were more than startled when Fannie Flag expecting someone else opened the door stark naked.
How about “Miss Firecracker” with Holly Hunter, Mary Steenburgen, Alfre Woodard and maybe Tim Robbins…or “The Last Confederate Widow Tells All” with Blythe Danner and Cicely Tyson ?The dress…the fur coat-in-progress…
I want to be Nick’s Nora. I loved all The Thin Man movies and was in love with William Powell. Nick, Nora and Asta lived the “good life” filled with excitement and still had time to enjoy a great martini. And, they were in love. However, I would dump those twin beds and add some passionate scenes with the sexy Mr. Powell.
My sentiments exactly. Great clothes, beautiful houses, drinks at 5 dinner at 6; lots of household staff; a husband who is your playmate and dashing suitor. (I agree about the twin beds). Theater in autumn; Bermuda in February. I would also enjoy being Marion Kerby in the “Topper” franchise. Same lifestyle …but you’re a ghost.
