Tie between “My Brilliant Career” (turn of the century Australian writer Judy Davis in love with young Sam Neill) and “What a Way To Go” (1950’s fantasy has gorgeous Shirley MacLaine married to 6 or 8 of the most talented, handsome & rich men around; personal favorite ~ Paul Newman, starving artist in beatnik Paris).
Have to add a couple more ~ totally agree with “Roman Holiday” Yes! Yes! Yes! Couldn’t imagine being anyone lovelier than young Audrey Hepburn, especially on a lark in Rome with Gregory Peck!
Also ~ wouldn’t mind being Julia Roberts in “Notting Hill” ~ I’d take book-shop-owner Hugh Grant any day!
For fun and pure enjoyment - anything with Robert R. & Paul N. in it but for thinking purposes (and I have thought about it a great deal since it came out in 1981) is “Whose Life Is It Anyway?” with Richard Dreyfuss. It continually challenges me to think about which one of my “senses” I would be willing to give up/live without. My answer seems to change based on the current situation of my life - but the challenge remains.
The Big Chill & Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood.
If you are a child of the 60’s and haven’t seen Across the Universe, please treat yourself. It if amazing!
Ladies (and gentleman), You have composed a mighty list which includes some of my favorites: Sense & Sensibility, Bridges of M. C.(but I would jump out of the truck…), Out of Africa, Dirty Dancing (P.S. could teach anyone to dance…), Way We Were, Body Heat (so sexy), but how about Butch Cassidy…. (that bicycle ride was georgeous, Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil (those SO gentile southerners…) and Love Song for Bobby Long (such a beautiful, sweet story).
I would live inside the liquid amber notes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, particularly at the end, when the sounds of his notes seemed golden against black velvet. On the other hand, I loved My Brilliant Career, particularly the moment when Janet Frame walks out of the classroom and an opra song (forget which one; sounds like Puccini) played as she walked and sobbed, but on the other hand, if it were a Wednesday, I might hang out with Charlie Chaplin and be a fly on the wall during his escapades!
