Julia Reed:
If you want to find yourself on one of the sets of “Three Days of the Condor”, I suggest that you take a walk on east 77th Street in NYC. On the north side of the street, between Madison Ave. and Park Ave.,midway on the block, is a building, broad stairs. This was the entrance to the office building where the massacre took place at the beginning of the movie.
If you wish, you can enter because it is now Lenox Hill Radiology.
Whenever I go for some x-ray or other, I pause as I ascend, lose myself in a reverie that Robert Redford will hold the door for me, both of us safely delivered from danger.

A few… “a perfect murder” and “someone to watch over me”, two of the most beautiful apartments and wardrobes I’ve ever seen, but “love actually” had the great ending, everyone ends up happy and in love, what’s better than that?
I would love to live in the movie “You’ve Got Mail.” But not have my bookstore go out of business. What a great life, New York City, owning my own little neighborhood bookstore, Tom Hanks in love with me. What more could a girl want?
This has been a real trip down memory lane, with several great movies I haven’t thought about in years (and can barely remember).
The ‘Thin Man’ movies seem to be a popular choice, and I agree. I love Nora’s wit: “The man or the fur-bearing animal?”
Glad to see someone else mention “My Man Godfrey”. Also “Adam’s Rib” and a little-known Cary Grant/Katharine Hepburn movie named “Holiday”.
For science fiction: “Back to the Future”, “Sky High”, or “Clockstoppers”. How cool would it be to get a do-over, have a super power, or be able to freeze time?
More seriously, “The Majestic” or “Sabrina” would be my first choice.
And I will round out my list with “A Walk in the Clouds”, “The Princess Diaries”, and “Summer Lovers”.
Not that I watch many movies…
As beautiful as Grace Kelly was in High Society, I would want to live the Katherine Hepburn version of Tracy Samantha Lord as her life was depicted in The Philadelphia Story… and she ends up with Cary Grant. I love Audrey Hepburn’s fairy tale life in Sabrina. Joan Fontaine’s character in Rebecca. And I agree any Nora and Nick Charles episode. It’s really hard to pick just a few, there are so many wonderful films to inhabit. This is a fun question to think about.
Flash Dance - or Dirty Dancing - the woman who played Penny in Dirty Dancing did the actual dancing in Flash Dance and I just want to dance like that! Not to mention both the men in those… oh ya. I could do that.
Oh ya… the movie 300. I want to be the spartan queen. so we all die in the end. did you see those men? it would be worth it. After we saw that movie I told my husband I wanna go home and “play spartan” LOL
Liz Smith, you are so right. All About Eve is the New York I wish I had known. Of course, I’d have to be Margot. (Someone reminded me of my “Margot Channing period” just yesterday. Moi? Difficult? Hard to imagine.) I wouldn’t be Eve, of course, although in my experience, nasty little schemers do very well indeed, but that’s real life, and we’re talking fantasies. I would love to live in a movie with George Clooney, but not the current one where they’re all covered in mud, or Brother Where Art Thou, unless I could be one of the maidens bathing in the stream (Hey! This is MY fantasy, right?) in the scene loosely (very loosely) adapted from The Odyssey, and George would get rid of the other maidens and come frolic with me in the water. Or better yet, whisk me away to Lake Como, Italy, where I’d finally learn to speak Italian. Or something.
