Really tough descion. So many great ones have been mentioned. Auntie Mame! I love the person who said they wanted to be Agnes Gooch. Reds and oh definitely Chocolat! Under the Tuscan Sun and oh yes…40 Carats! with Liv Ullmann, she so incredible.
If you lived in the 60’s, you gotta see Across the Universe. From the trailers I thought it would be hokey but a friend recomended it and I am hooked. Great musical, love story and so much more….
So many good choices already mentioned. I’d love to spend time with Gene Kelly in Brigadoon and with the lovely March sister of “Little Woman” (Katharine Hepburn version).
Metropolitan - the Upper East side before girls dressed in Uggs and velour sweatsuits… talking about Thorstein Veblen (sp) at parties.
Stolen Kisses - Truffaut film in the Antoine Doinel series. Set in Paris.
Gigi.
On Golden Pond, floating around on a boat, listening to the Loons, fishing (catch and release)…and hanging around with Jane Fonda drinking wine and watching the sunsets….
As a young girl, Jo from Little Women; she was so misunderstood. Also, Scarlet from Gone With The Wind. In my heart, I always believed when I left the theater, Rhett would give her just one more chance. Same with Fanny in Funny Girl. Why couldn’t her and Nick make it work? That’s always been the saddest for me: when two people could not be together even though they share a great love. The Way We Were was another good one for that. I loved Cher in Moonstruck. Finding passion when you think all that’s left is settling; the whole feel of the movie - the traditions, the humor, the opera, the great brownstone. Love it. Also, several people have mentioned Pride and Prejudice. A few years back, I saw a “Bollywood” take on that called Bride and Prejudice. I love those movies. They’re filled with color and exotic costumes and wonderful music and dancing. Can’t help but make you feel happy.
Oh my… Tough choice - too many movies have been made!
Exactly what movie I’d want to live in, would depend on what mood I’d be in; I’ve “narrowed” it down to these ones:
How to make an American quilt
9 to 5 (would be so much fun to get back at the boss!)
The American president
84 Charing Cross Road
Shining through
Chocolat
As good as it gets
Cat Ballou
Mary Poppins
Christina- “84 Charing Cross Road” - One of the films I treasure. I have it on tape (yes, tape) and watch it several times a year. Pity they never met, but that would have spoiled the story, I guess.
Maurine H & Deni G: I too have both those movies on tape (VHS). Sure wish I coukd get them on DVD.
Both of them are the kind that keaves you with a good feeling inside after having seen them!
Christina, I thought I was the only one who remembered Cat Balou. It’s one of the movies I count on when I need a good chuckle. Lee Marvin was insanely brilliant!
