Out of Africa, as someone said, for the scenery. But I also vote for Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, just to be there with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn in the last scene.
Depends on what stage of my life I guess….when I was single I would have loved to be in “The Holiday”.
As someone who was “burned” in many ways by an “Ex-husband” I would love to be in “First Wive’s Club”. Even though I haven’t seen the movie version….how about “Sex and the City”. (for the Cosmopolitans, great figure and clothes if nothing else.)
North By Northwest - I’d love to hang out with Cary Grant and at the same time have an adventure climbing Mount Rushmore. Then again Swing Time and Shall We Dance would be nice movies to hang out in. If only I could dance. And maybe a little maritini with William Powell and Myrna Loy in the Thin Man.
So many really great films listed by all of you, that I found myself saying,”Yeah, that one, too!” Don’t forget the music and theme songs that helped make the films so memorable that you went home humming the music, laughing out loud at some of the scenes and wiping tears at other scenes and another bonus: NOCOMMERCIALS! to interrupt the film. I’d rather watch a good film anyday than TV and there’s so many to choose from!
Any of the “modern” Jane Austen movies, particulary “Pride and Prejudice”. If I would want to live in a movie it would be as an independent woman, who meets her soul mate who is rich and handsome , and adores me for the rest of my life. I believe there is singing and dancing in there too……..
Julia Reed! Just 23 minutes ago, I finished watching ‘Indiscreet’ on TCM! Before I scrolled down to your answer, I was just sure that was the film I would love to live in forever! And for all your wonderful reasons. Plus there were no children and no mention of children… sophisticated and clean…beautiful clothes and I have always wanted to be an actress…with Cary Grant any time…sigh
I’d love to live in the Harry Potter movies. I’m way too old to be a student, but I would love to be one of the teachers and hang out with Minerva and Albus - not sure about Severus. I could teach Magic Art Quilts. If I can’t live at Hogwarts, maybe The Milagro Beanfield War -I love all of the characters.
The Fifth Element (1997) is my choice. I love The Matrix Trilogy too, but I would never choose to live in that movie- too dark and gloomy.
The Fifth Element is a Sci-Fi romp, campy and action-packed with the underlined theme being the power of love.
