I have been thinking about this question all day and it has put a smile on my face. I am on stage dancing to the singing of Toby Keith.

As a 54 year old, I spent my college years in DC and my 20s and 30s in NYC going from concert to concert… too many wonderful ones to remember them all. But my dream one is about to come true. Next month I get to take my 13 year old to his first concert… American Idol… I can’t wait to see the excitement in his eyes!!

Barry Manilow, hands down! Playing his piano and singing to me..My favorite song “When October goes”…a Johnny Mercer song he did…absolutely beautiful…of course it wouldn’t really matter what he sang as long as I was his audience.

Fantasy Concert Dreams … a small club and Leonard Cohen, Lucinda Williams and Patti Smith … a bigger club and The Kinks … a warm summer night on a beach with Cesaria Evora and Caetano Veloso … and back in time to hear: Lotte Lenya performing Weill/Brecht … Edith Piaf … John Coltrane … Miles Davis … and in real life ~ fantasies: hoping to hear Patti LuPone in ‘Gypsy’, and see ‘Hair’ in Central Park this summer … and musical memories of some fantasies come true: Philip Glass in Carnegie Hall, Bob Dylan in Berlin, The Rolling Stones at Yankee Stadium, Patti Smith on New Year’s Eve, Laurie Anderson at BAM, working on a music video for Sonic Youth, working post-production on the PBS series The Blues and being invited to the final historical concert with all the greats at Radio City Music Hall … and a very special, meditation retreat performance by Tibetan flutist Nawang Khechog

My fantasy concert would be The Allman Brothers Band (with Dickie Betts and his red guitar again), a big sack of top shelf high grade marijuana, loads of sweet iced tea, 50 of our closest friends and acquaintances and Greg Allman playing that big Hammond B3 organ while everyone dances and sings along.

Fantasy concert? The original King’s Singers, Moxy Fruvous, Adam Sandler, Colin Hay, and the Beatles. And now I must go make a new mix cd… .

Just for fun, an all “girl” band - all over 40 and hot, hot, hot. Lead singer Bonnie Bramlett, of former Delaney and Bonnie, first white Ikette and lone female singer in the Allman Brothers. Back up singers Rita Coolidge and Merry Clayton (from Mad Dogs and Englishmen). On bass, the beautiful Felicia Collins from Paul Schaeffer’s CBS orchestra. On drums, Sheila E, daughter of Pete Escovedo, percussionist for Santana. Joan Jett on guitar. Makes me shake what my mama gave me just thinkin’ about it.

I’ve lived my fantasy concert experience. I’ve seen Bruce more than 20 times!

i would have loved to be a back up singer for ELVIS. I cant even sing but that sure would have been a blast. Does that tell you how old I might be?

By far the most magical concert I was at was a Democratic fundraiser at Streisand’s Malibu property in 86. Perfectionist that she is, she had rehearsed herself hoarse by the time the concert arrived (and had to revoice the performance for the CD) but it was a truly transcendent experience to witness this star, bathed in white light, releasing those heavenly tones from her depths which filled the verdant canyons under a starry sky. It brought tears to the eyes.
