What Liz Smith Would Title Her Obit

Joan Ganz Cooney Already Knows How Her Obit Will Read

I’m practically certain what my obituary will be headlined so there is no point in my getting creative about it.

Marlo Thomas on the Last Word

I don’t like talking about my obituary. Not because I’m afraid of dying — we all have to go sometime — but because I know I’m not going to have the final edit. Don’t you hate that?!

This time we think he really IS dead”. (FYI: My heart flat-lined June 4)

James, can I ask what happened?

Sure, “a-little-Dab-will-do-ya” (old Bryl cream ad, remember?!). You are very kind to ask. I have an hereditary conductive-hearing loss problem in my left (middle) ear. It’s very correctable, through laser surgery. Anyway, whatever local anesthesia/adrenalin that was administered stop my heart. They did CPR for four minutes, used epinepherin, etc., to restore my heart to a normal rhythm. Afterward, I went through a battery of nuclear perfusion and stress tests, and finally, a heart catheterization, which showed absolutely no damage done. They attributed that to years in the martial arts. I went right back to karate. Now, the real test will be to survive the medical bills! Ironically, I took out a Critical Injury policy in February, for the first time ever, and that’s supposed to pay me $10,000, and the rest is supposed to be covered at 80% by regular insurance. I’m not afraid of death whatsoever, since so many I loved are now in heaven. But I’m afraid of possible pain and debilitation when I get old, that’s why it’s so important to work out - so that you are able to live an active life when you hit 90. Just ask legendary baseball announcer Ernie Harwell: http://www.walkytalk.com/

Lol, “a-little-Dab-will-do-ya” is what my first boyfriend used to say! Since I want to stick around for a long time and watch the new world unfold I better get walking! I need the exercise and it is never too late to start. I guess you know that. Yes, karate was probably what saved you from cardiac damage. Your heart muscle is, I suspect, very strong from the intense workouts. Fate has really been kind to you to step in re: the injury policy obtained months before. I would think that after that experience you may have a different, clearer take on your life, what you want and are willing to “go for it?” I’ve never experienced anything like that but have been in a few “codes” in my day. You must have some things that you still need to do in this world to have survived. I am beginning to believe there is a reason for all things. February seems to have been a pivotal month for both of us but in different ways. You needed that policy for what was to happen in June. I had an “incident” that landed me in the hospital for 3 days. All symptoms of a stroke but not one. However, I do have white, demyelinating spots on my MRI. I have pain only on my right side and can’t feel hot or cold. Actually, a cool mist of cologne feels like needles on my right side. Will be going to Mayo in 2 weeks and hope that it is something that can be stopped by keeping blood pressure under control and cholesterol down. However, the doctor I trust the most here has indicated he thinks I may have multiple sclerosis. Age 60 is too old to have an inital diagnosis of MS so someone missed the signals/symptoms I have had for quite a few years. What ever it is, I am not slowing down. I am speeding up. Gonna cram in everthing I can. Just make the payments you can afford on those old medical bills. We don’t have debtors prison anymore, so don’t worry about it overly much!!!! Whatever happened seemed to have changed me. I retired, marrying my husband and have a bucket list you won’t believe. Ain’t life grand. I have never felt so excited about the next part of my life as I do now. I hope you feel the same way. From what I have read of your posts you do, too.

Good for you, Dabney. Positively, the doctors at The Clinic will diagnose and treat correctly. (I had ‘Hopefully’ and I changed that to ‘Positively’ for that extra boost through cyberspace) You have such a life-affirming attitude; I’m catching the waves down here in Texas. Keep us posted. Peace and grace

Same, here! Ya-Hoo from Tejas! Keep us informed - I’ve been following up on people with unexplained symptoms of neuropathy, and your reaction to the cologne spray is familiar. Some also have severe pain when they touch cold water, and in the large muscles when they create a loud sound, like slamming a door, or breaking up ice in the freezer, etc. Many had chemo, and I know that it damages nerve endings; other have neuromuscular conditions, as you mentioned, often undiagnosed until they were in their mid to late 60. Undiagnosed diabetes can also be the culprit. L-Carnitine and a super B- Complex seems to help the symptoms. I’ve flown across the country for medical care, and well-understand your determination. Please take out time to enjoy the trip, and keep typing away to us. Be well! those of us in Texas are with you.

I just read these posts and I have to tell you how I saved my own life .I did a Gall Stone Fush .My stones came out with ease and I had some large stones .They were coated with CHOLESTROL .I had Black Circles under my eyes ! Like a Drug Addict or Rock Star before the Flush .I went to a County Hospital and my kidneys were shutting down .I was only passing a drop or 2 @ a time .My liver was as big as a football and pushing on my ribs I laid in bed in pain for a whole year ! praying and crying my-self to sleep every night .I had caught HBV @ work and I didnt know it and workmans comp doctors tried to kill me @ the last because I never failed a drug test .They gave me steriods which made my problem worse and like I said they were trying to kill me .And I knew nothing about steriods or HBV ..After I got home from the County Hospital I got online and found Curezone.com and I was looking for a Healer ….(The Hand of GOD ) I did this Natural Flush and I passed all my gall stones & I irradicated my HBV and my Black Circles under my eyes went away and on top of that I felt 20 years younger ! After this flush I have learned how to stay alive with Natural Cures .Purple Corn from Peru cures Colon Cancer and makes Tumors in the Colon almost go away .You can Google as I have and find the Study @ A&M Texas and some other Colleges have done the same study on Purple Corn .Just thought I would pass that info along also .Just to show you to take your LIFE into your own hands and remember Sick People are Big Business !Please look into Curcumin the spice I know it works on inflamation and inflamtion causes cancer .I take it beacuse I I have problems with my knees and it takes away the puffiness ..And its great for Pre PMS .Every disease we have ever had its in our Gall Bladders .The Gall Bladder & LIVER work together .And if your Liver is clogged and gall bladder is clogged then you have serious health problems .You must do a whole body cleanse .I have even done coffee enimas and I felt more than wonderful .Becareful they are very addicting .But that is a AWSOME cleanse for your Liver !And I say the Rosary ,there are 15 Promises to saying the Holy Rosary …and its real because I am still here ..

Thanks to Donna, Carol and Eliza….I did not get good news re: my pain. It is something that I will live with for the present. No operation can help. I have tried an antidepressant for chronic pain and only slept with only minor pain relief. Now I am tapering off the antidepressant and taking natural anti-inflamatory supplements and herbs. I would rather find a way to live with the pain than live with the sleepiness and lethargy. I appreciate everyones’ good wishes.
