What Liz Smith Would Title Her Obit

Joan Ganz Cooney Already Knows How Her Obit Will Read

I’m practically certain what my obituary will be headlined so there is no point in my getting creative about it.

Marlo Thomas on the Last Word

I don’t like talking about my obituary. Not because I’m afraid of dying — we all have to go sometime — but because I know I’m not going to have the final edit. Don’t you hate that?!

Since I don’t intend to totally leave, I don’t think I need one. I have made sure, as much as possible, that my body will go for medical research, especially in the field of aneurysms. Also, if there are any parts worth using, I believe in organ donations. Thus, I hope to be around in bits and pieces for a very long time. I have told my kids that I want them to have a big party and came up with a list of songs to play. While driving a while back a station played about 3 of these songs in a row and I was beginning to wonder if perhaps I had died and didn’t know it, if so it wasn’t too bad at all. I have an odd sense of what songs are appropriate - “Knocking on Heavens Door”, Stairway to Heaven”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, “When I Die Just Let Me Go To Texas” and to give the other side a little equal time “Highway to Hell” lol.

Frannie Em
Frannie Em’s son, Eric here. Just spending some quality time with me mam and I asked to post on this topic. So… ANYWHO! I got a couple. “Free at last, free at last. Thank the lord, I’m free at last.” “Et in Arcadia Ego…” “That’s it?” And my personal favorite: “The point of life is not to be lowered gently into the grave. Rather, it is to skid in sideways on fire while yelling ‘DUDE! That was awesome!’”

Dear Frannie Em’s son, “The point of life is not to be lowered gently into the grave. Rather, it is to skid in sideways on fire while yelling ‘DUDE’! That was awesome!” I had to rewrite that to commit it to memory because it is the best yet and totally awesome, dude. If memory serves correctly, which is not a sure thing these days, you have recently returned from Iraq. I have not been in favor of this war but my heart has been with you guys every step of the way for your service to our country and the amazing job you have done under such awful circumstances with very little support and proper equipment. I doff my straw hat in your directionand say “awesome, dude”. But, have a great life and don’t go down in flames anytime soon.

Agyness, Eric’s leave is over and he left just after posting this to drive back to Ft Lewis in Washington State. When he calls I will read it to him. He will appreciate what you said. I was also against this war.

Frannie Em …. and Eric, How wonderful to have a fresh and young voice ring through our thread! I trust that you enjoyed your visit although I’m certain it was too short. Give Eric my best wishes, my thoughts of support and most especially …. my gratitude. LC

Linda Thanks so much. I enjoy your posts. I wish he would have posted more. He would stand reading over my shoulder and make comments. I’d suggest he should post, but he was busy.

What a vain game this is … I love it … The truth of the matter is I am sure to go down in potters field without ceremony … oh, that won’t be good on account I will more than likely to be a pain in the dumb ass in my after life just like my present life … tee hee …
