Contribution is not compulsory. Intelligence is, to an extent, subjective. Professionalism is probably not required for a cyber post; especially if using a psedonym. Hopefully this site wants professional accomplished women to to gab about all kinds of topics. Could it be that you were looking to fullfill professional networking needs? That’s fine; but I don’t belive it to be the goal of this site so far.
Please let’s be careful of censoring and judging others too much. Let’s make this an opportunity to not “parent” something/someone. We could all learn alot from each other if we listen openly. Thanks.
I usually do use a pseudonym but this site asked for my name (often required) did not provide “userid” space and poof! my real name showed up on the blogging. I will go back and double check registering to see what I missed or if they imporved the register for userid. More freedom with phoney name but also less thoughtful responses knowing your name is attached to it.
Suzanne, Feel the same way, so there is no way to change it. Small print is sometimes not on scrolled section. I didn’t realize my name would pop up, thought there would be a username coming up. Didn’t get it.
How about a question like: What brings you joy? What makes you miserable? What pisses you off? Have you ever been to a psychic, and what did they tell you? Did it come true? Do you believe in GOD/higher power?
Please remember that you will not like every single topic. This site is not tailored to every nuance of your personal interests. You make a valid point about the disclosure/professional reputation aspect. However as has been stated, you may use and alias and an avatar. No one is so incredibly unique that an answer would identify them to a potential employer who by the very definition that term would not know the contributor that well anyway.
Please remember that some of us do not have a place to be silly and middle aged at the same time without repercussions.
Should you ever decide to muse on something in this forum that does not amuse or inform me, I promise not to judge or censor you.
This site is a great forum for both the important and the not so pressing topics of the day. Let’s enjoy more and control less. PLEASE.
Incredibly well-put …. one of those “wish I’d said that” moments. You sound like the kind of woman I would really admire; obviously educated and articulate, but non-judgmental. Thanks.
Margo- Jeanette’s statement of what she thinks is just that….yours is out of line terming here’s controlling …..she has a right to express herself without someone else attaching their negative connotation to it. I agree with her….there are many other questions that I would have preferred but then this isn’t my website so it isn’t up to me but I can certaintly express myself as I will and so can she.
She sure does have a right to her own opininon. Of course I don’t agree that I was out of line…but that’s my opinion as well. I was specifically responding to this statement:
“With potential employers looking you up and reading your post this question is not too cool.”
and the ones that followed; when I made my suggestion.
Let me clarify: It’s not about whether or not I agree with everything you say, I just want to make sure that everyone is allowed their chance.
Naturally, since this is a static form of communication what I said can be perceived as an attack on the very thing I’m tryng to defend. Tant pis.
Jeanette…All.good questions…My favorite question is, if you could choose only one memory from your life to live with throughout eternity…what would that be? I’ve exactly had a chance to test drive asking in a forum and the answers were amazing….it was a friend’s 50th b-day party and the people there were all drs., lawyers, etc….50 different answers and everyone memorable, universal and amazing….while I agree…this is not the most interesting question to me.
