There’s nothing about John McCain that doesn’t worry me.

Liz Smith: Ignorance Is Not Bliss

Who am I to criticize anyone about their great age? I am older than the GOP nominee. I gave him money way back when he first appeared in politics; I sure wouldn’t do that again. It’s not his age; it’s his insouciant total ignorance of what is facing the next president, his incredible flip-flops and pandering and his mistaken idea that we want him to carry on the terrible George W. Bush legacy. That said – I rather like Sen. McCain but I will be voting Democratic in November in hopes of a more liberal Supreme Court.

Mary Wells Needs a Change

As an age John McCain is frisky and attractive. It is not his age that worries me. I deeply pray for change and not just in Washington.

Hey Deni Reading through some of the opinions posted above, I rememered something I respectfully suggested back in May when someone else offered similar perceptions of Obama. I asked: “Have you ever even considered that Obama holds himself with dignity? After I read your post I watched him today in search of a hint of “preen,” and swear I could not see it. What I do see suggests that someone (his mom maybe, or that famous grandmother of his?) constantly reminded him to carry himself with pride.” I guess it is all about the way we filter information? I see only dignity and self-assurance in our future President, qualities I value and appreciate. His delivery is beautiful to these ears of mine. On the other side, I see that clip of McCain “singing” about bombing and feel sickened. He calls us “my friends” and I gag on the condescension. I know that some have found humor and/or sincerity there, but I will NEVER comprehend the process by which they arrived at those conclusions. Guess they will never understand our perceptions either? And so be it.

Hi Countrywoman! Oh I hate that ‘my friends’ line. Me with the gagging, too. I watched a clip of him going after this woman in a congressional hearing, several years ago. And that is one angry vicious scary man. He does not possess the temperament to be leader of a ‘free’ country. I was always upset at the idea of Bush. But McCain terrifies me.

The older I get, the less politicians’ ages worry/annoy me. As far as my thoughts on McCain, just read Frank’s post (for the most part). As a woman who is pro-choice, any man that thinks he knows better than I do how to deal with my health & reproductive system worries me as well as angers me.

ki b….the taco one was the one I referred to …. it was directed to mary lou but referenced your posts too. It has been deleted by the administration but that doesn’t mean it didn’t exist. Many of us have a copy of the post in its entirety including all of the vile words. Ki…. I have posted for quite a while here and I love reading your posts. You are not condescending as some are, nor are you dimissive in my opinion. In my opinion, some people have a hard time accepting they are not perfect and feel they must use vile and contemptible/dispicable terms to describe another’s actions. When people do this, it harms the atmosphere and and is in conflict with the intent of this site. And I have decided that it is best to bypass any posts by people who do this…and I certainly will not answer to anything they post to me. Yes it must be tough to be insecure. Peace and Goodwill….doll

McCain is losing it fast. A huge part of his problem is that he is enabled at every turn, which in turn is making him less and less capable of performing simple tasks such as taking care of his grooming and being spontaneous. Every gesture and phrase is over-rehearsed. Like Bush, McCain is a puppet.

I have no concern about Senator McCain’s age. I respect the courage he showed during his military service in VietNam, and think he’s demonstrated independence in his voting record over the years. I haven’t decided whether I’ll vote for him or not, but if I do not, it will not have anything to do with his age. Mr. Kitty will be 71 next month, and is one of the most dynamic and brilliant people I’ve ever known. A non-issue, in my opinion.

Hi Kitty, I think McCain’s independence as to his voting record, has been pretty much absent, these last few years. He has voted with Bush more than any other Senator. His age does bother me. He ranks, as the #1 most absent senator of the 110th Congress. He has missed 61.8 percent of the votes. That is greater even than Sen. Tim Johnson, D-SD (recovering from a brain hemorrhage). He has not cast a vote in the Senate since April 8. I assume, this is in part because it is too strenuous for him. And yet, McCain has taken a break from campaigning nearly every Saturday and Sunday for the past 20 weeks. I don’t think any of this bodes well, for his ability to handle the rigors that come with the presidency.

I have to be honest here, yes his age bothers me. It’s nowhere near the top of the list of things about Senator McCain that bother me, but it does. That he’s let the campaign run on this long without naming a running mate is along those same lines. Looks like both of them are waiting on the conventions to do that.

McCain’s age doesn’t bother me, but I think if he gets in it will only be for 4 years. I have always gotten the impression that no-one says no to John McCain. That kind of bothers me. Also, as both candidates have, I don’t like his flip flopping that has been taking place. I am not sure what he stands for anymore, so he better get his message clear. I hope he is listening to what people are saying. I have never seen him in a town hall meeting, people say that is where he does well and reaches the people. It must be, because he has been holding his own according to the polls. I understand he had a problem last week, people wanting him to prove to them that he was still a conservative. Otherwise, he has been blowing sound bites and speeches. He has been re-elected from his district so many times, he knows how to do that, but I think he continues to get mixed up what people want to know. I want to know what he stands for. Maybe he thinks that people know him because he has been in congress so long. Well, not so. He needs to step it up. I am a realist, I want out of the Middle East, but as the Russians and the Chinese have been on an oil hunt, then the balance of powers will remain a necessity. McCain hasn’t come out with what he is going to do about that. I believe Social Security has to be addressed. The issue got squashed and it is going to be such a problem. I don’t know if either candidate can bring an end to the partisanship. The struggle for power and money is out of control.
