The love of family, the love of tradition, the wreath on the door, the tree covered with treasured ornaments that combine the homemade children’s ornaments — to treasures on the tree dating back almost 80 years, are part of the glue that holds the family together, making each Christmas another memory.
Specially chosen gifts — searched out for their meaning for each person who receives them is a part of that tradition. To me it says to each and every one: I care for you, I love you, and no matter how small it may be, it fits the person well - a token of my caring. For the opening of the gifts is a passing thing - part of the tradition. But the feeling of those who have gathered together in the joy and harmony of the moment is what will leave the true memory. At this moment, we are all one - real family or not, a part of family
and cherished.
And while there may be the fire in the fireplace, it is the warmth in the room
that touches the heart forever. And so it will be this year - and always.
Lovely… and being a visual, sentimental type I enjoyed reading your story of holiday warmth, joan. Merry Christmas and warm days ahead :)
Hines Hammond … .
You have disappeared from view of all the WOWers — and we wondered what in the world happened to you
in the last couple of months. I hope the story is one of those with a very happy ending, whatever it is.
You obviously are in the colder climes from your new photo — but I am taking it that you are very warm at heart.
Don’t leave us again as you have given us such truth and honesty — and the greatest of intelligence — in your threads that you have been a major addition to the WOW world. We look forward to your wit and wisdom and in the meantime - will imagine you making snowmen in profusion from the looks of that snowy scene. Merry, merry, Hines — and great to see you here again!
I keep trying, but not being very successful this year.
I really can’t find the words to describe how I’m feeling………
Maybe I’m just feeling empty…………..
In the past Christmas was always my favorite time of the year.
I loved the decorations……….the shopping………..the cooking
The sharing of time with my big family.
Now that I can’t do all those things anymore and most of
my family are gone. I guess the feeling of loneliness is just not a feeling I’m familiar with.
So many new and strange feelings I’ve never had before.
Well, I think I need to heed my own words and get off my butt and do something to start feeling more upbeat. I’ve never been a cryer, but this past week I think I cry at almost everything……..even commercials on TV…..LOL
I think I will feel better Christmas day………..playing with my great grandsons.
spending the day with my granddaughter and my sister.
Life moves on…….
Merry Merry Christmas to me and all of you……….
Merry Christmas to you Dona, you have given all of us here the gift of your wisdom, understanding and humor and we’ve been better off for that. Circumstances in life will change but the spark of life will always keep us moving toward new chances for love and happiness. Enjoy your day with your family, see ya back here after Christmas … big doin’s comming !
Merry Christmas EKA! Keep warm and cozy, eat some dainty treats and some whopping servings, and stay close with us on Wow. Best wishes, Hines
Dona, it has been a hard Christmas season for me also. I think you said it correctly when you used the word “empty”. And, I feel terribly guilty because my kids are here and Miss Emily, my youngest grandchild is only 11. And, they have a new Christmas puppy, so I have a new “granddog”.
Perhaps we are nearing the end of a very difficult year that we are just worn out over. I think that this afternoon during a quiet moment, I would do well to make a list of things to have gratitude for instead of remembering what I don’t have anymore.
You will be on my mind today and tomorrow. And, just think, we have a whole new year to look forward to.
Diana, I think we are worn out from the politics and the rest of the “news” . think of the next month and the beginning of a new era.
Meanwhile I wish you a great Holiday. You will be fine tomorrow when all the excitement starts.
Keep your rugs away from the “granddog”.
Dona, this really makes me sad..you have been such a source of inspiration to so many of us. Your compassion, determination and so many other gifts you have inspired me so much. I think Diana has the right idea about why we are feeling kind of blue this year. It has been really such a tough, up and down, roller coaster year.
I know what your speak of about health issues. I had a very small dinner event last night and I hurt so much this morning I cried trying to get out of bed. But tonight I will laugh with my children and grandkids…just think next year there will be a great-granddaughter. Thanks to the ladies here on WOW I have come to embrace that and am really understanding what is really important; especially you, Dona. You have given me many tools for carrying on with spirit, a smile, and love.
I have a special prayer and many happy wishes for you this Christmas and the coming year.
Dabney,
Welcome back! I am starting to wish my friends a “satisfying” kind of Christmas.
I am looking forward to after the holidays when we can look forward to the new administration and new things to post back and forth on. Let’s stay in touch. I don’t know what I would have done this year without wow and my new wow friends. I’m just glad I happened to tune in to Charlie Rose the night Liz, Lesle et al were on talking about their new project.
