A recession economy does not mean you can't afford Christmas. What's your best (and cheapest) do-it-yourself gift idea?

I just spent the last year learning glass fusing. Giving gifts that I have made will be the norm from now on.
Liz is welcome to send me a blank check. The Big Three are asking for rather expensive stocking stuffers, why can’t I?
Peggy- I’m with De B….this has got to be my last laugh tonight. However, I can’t go to sleep without reading the rest.
So, here I go…into the world of crafty critters.
Unless it’s something I know they really want, I’ll just give gift cards from the stores I know they frequent and like.
A lady friend of mine has given me scratch-off lottery tickets before, and I think that’s a nice little gift if you’re not sure what to get someone. Not so nice if they win and snub you. Ha!
Hi my friend, Yes that would not be too cool if snubed after they win and yet somehow, I think I would feel worse if they didn’t win as all, they would end up with just a piece of paper with pictures of some sort of fruit on it, LOL. James, it gets so busy comming up closer to Christmas, so my friend, just in case…… I wish you now, to have the most blessed and beautiful Christmas……And ,if anyone gives you Lottery tickets, I hope you hit the jackpot! :)
Elaine- I posted this on another thread but you may not have seen it.
The following comes from a source at the Treasury Department. Something to think about when we are doing our Christmas shopping:
You may want to share this with people that you know of who intend to give gift cards around the holidays. They need to be sure the cards will be honored afterwards. They should deal with cards on hand and any other business they have with these stores and others. Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law preventing them from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as ‘Bankruptcy Planning’. Below is a partial list of stores to be cautious about.
Circuit City (filed Chapter 11)
Ann Taylor- 117 stores nationwide closing
Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug ,and Catherine’s to close 150 stores nationwide

I just want everyone to be careful with the gift cards. On the other thread someone suggested getting Visa cards that will be good anywhere. I hope this helps.
HI Josie, That was so nice of you to do this and you are absolutely right. One has to definately make sure that stores will honor their cards. And purchasing the Visa gift cards is a great idea. I have done that in the past for a birthday here and there, but now believe that the Visa gift cards are the best and safest way to go as one can purchase anywhere. Thank you again Josie, and I wish you a beautiful blessed Christmas!
