If you could, what decade would you like to repeat? Would you do it all the same?

When Joan Ganz Cooney Was Thirtysomething

Thirty to 40 was my happiest decade but I wouldn’t care to repeat it.

Marlo Thomas Thinks Back on Her 30s

I’ve had some great decades. But my 30s were a very exciting and formative time for me. I had been working so hard through my 20s that I just ignored a lot of my feelings. I put them aside — I was just too busy (and tired) for them. But somewhere in my 30s I grew into being a woman and allowed myself to take the time to explore and feel all of it. And it informed all the years that came after it. I don’t want to go back and do that decade again, but had I not had that time, I would be in an entirely different place from where I am now. And I like where I am now.

The Decade Ahead for Mary Wells

My past is full of mistakes I wouldn’t dream of repeating – the big ones and those little ones like those apricot silk draperies I couldn’t afford for my first apartment. I look forward to tomorrow and next year because the beauty of aging is that you do get wiser.

Liz Smith: Once Wet Behind the Ears

I don’t particularly want to relive anything, but if I have to choose I would say New York City in the ’50s when I first arrived green and eager. It was just five years after World War II and the city was glorious and the world was my exotic oyster.

The 1960’s, of course. Wild crazy years, but I was leading a sheltered small town life that allowed me to peer into the happenings via the tv, news, etc., without actually taking part in them! My 2 sisters, and I shared some really wonderful, carefree years with our loving mom and dad. There will never be anything like the 1960’s again, everything imagineable went on somewhere in our country, or around the world. Wowsers!

I was in my 20s during the 60s and, if I could go back, I would have gone to art school like everyone wanted me to. I could have gotten a full scholarship! It would have changed my entire life for the better. Instead I spent the decade working myriad mindless clerical jobs and going dancing trying to find a husband. I didn’t. So here I am in my late 60s, childless, single and suddenly desperately poor. If anyone had told me back then this is how I’d end up, I would have screamed and then dropped dead of a stroke or heart attack. mikki karotkin

I would do the 70’s over, not because it was such a GREAT decade, but I grew into the person I wanted to be and if I had the chance to do it over I would probably not do the same things I did before. I would be more carefree, and more of an adult.
