If you were a rock star, who would you be?

Judith Martin

Judith Martin ... Undressed?

Undoubtedly someone wearing fewer clothes than I do.

Joan Ganz Cooney

Joan Ganz Cooney | 06/23/2008 12:00 am

Joan Ganz Cooney: 'No Thanks!'

I wouldn’t be a rock star … ANY rock star.

Cynthia McFadden

Cynthia McFadden: Not Just About the Singing

Aretha Franklin … ah, to be able to sing like the hippest of the angels and eat whatever you want.

Candice Bergen

Candice Bergen: What They Said

Rock Star?? Taken already by more intrepid wow’ers: Aretha and Tina.

Mary Wells

Mary Wells: It's a Toss-Up

I would be Bono. He is a happy man and should be, he is a natural actor, he is very funny and can tell a great story, he is devoted to a family and friends who love him dearly, he is working to make the world a better place. Otherwise I would be Mick Jagger. He is much more complicated and probably less happy but he is adorable.

Julia Reed

Julia Reed: How Does He Do That?

Mick Jagger, no question. He has really cool houses and a great decorator — David Mlinaric — and a whole bunch of money and a smart good-looking girlfriend and he always looks like he’s having a lot of fun. He is also in amazing shape. I mean, I can hardly talk to my friend, Vesta, when we fast-walk together and ole Mick is running around and jumping up and down onstage and SINGING for God’s sake. So yeah, Mick, definitely.
Jane Wagner

Jane Wagner: For Talent and Epic Endurance

The ones I would have chosen have already been taken. So I’ll say Keith Richards … for talent and epic endurance. (He can fall out of a coconut tree and still rock n roll all over the world.) Or, Amy Winehouse because I think she’s an interesting artist, and I always wanted to go to Russia with all expenses paid. Next would be Grace Slick.
Lily Tomlin

Lily Tomlin: Just One Won't Do

If I were a rock star, I’d be Annie Lennox and David Bowie. Who I really want to be is Tom Waits!!!!!!
Liz Smith

Liz Smith | 06/23/2008 12:00 am

Liz Smith: Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll

Probably Willie Nelson, but in my real dreams I’d like to be all of the Supremes. They’re the ones I loved and used to dance to back in the old days of sex, drugs, rock ’n’ roll.

Little Fefe ~ There is nothing wrong with being too idealistic. It is just your dreams sparkling.
TINA TURNER! Love the hair, flair, outfits and her attitude. She OWNS that stage. She’s quite the Rockette :)

Bob Dylan, the best poet we’ve had in — I don’t know how long.—astounding lyrical poetry—his writing aurally is like viewing an ethereal Garbo as Anna Karenina in the great silent film: Love; it’s visually hallenging in his use of rhyme and Hopkins-like sprung rhythm; his love for Sara springs through in Sad-eyed Lady of the Lowlands—he uses words like the coices of the gods—he more than any other poet/writer/songster was the singular voice of his generation and of the ones following and he left his mark and still leaves it on any that are to come. He is in that tradition of jongleurs and troubadours from the middle ages on—he created a legend early on and then had the wit to live in it and of it. I’d sell my jaded soul to write like Dylan.

Bob Dylan was my first choice too Frank, but he’s not really a rock star. My next choice would be Mick Jagger. Currently I am in love with Jack White (White Stripes fame), John Mayer, and Blues artist Jonny Lang.

C A : When he went electric at Newport and all the folkies booed him, I was rocked by that, the electric not the booing—the man is amazing in his writing and whether he’s rock or not—-the man rocks my world :-)

Frank, have you ever seen the book ‘Writings and Drawings of Bob Dylan?’ A friend gave me a hard bound copy in the ‘70’s. It is the best source of his songs presented as poetry and personal writings. I don’t even know if it is still in print…you may want to check it out.

It all depends on who her lovers were.* Passion, talent and beauty. I would be Carly Simon. * (Cat, James, Mick, Warren… )

And don’t forget that great song she wrote for Mick—“You’re so vain” lol

The author of “Girls Like Us” seems to think she wrote it for Warren Beatty. Carly always refuses to say who she wrote it about (although she auctioned off the answer for charity, but the winner had to promise not to tell). I agree it’s a great song.

Bonnie Oliver
If I were a rock star I would like to be either Cher, wearing more clothes than just a ribbon (remember that outfit?), or Streisand when she sang duet with Neil Diamond, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers Anymore”. OR for loud, hot, foot stomping music to dance, John Fogerty - CCR.

Oh Bonnie Creedence Clearwater with Fogerty—aces! ;-)
