Thank you, Ulla! Let’s not forget that Patti inspired KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See” with her womanly power and uncommon grace…
oh, thank you, Mignon, for reminding me of that!
… yeah, Patti’s power and grace, an inspiration for a long time and still going strong! … ages ago, I used snippets from ‘Wave’ (which had just arrived in Berlin) on a soundtrack and my fellow film students just had big question marks over their heads … now in NYC, I have seen her play many times, lucky me …
“dancing barefoot, dedicated to the rites of the heroine”
You’re welcome! I find it so interesting that so many have seized upon “Suddenly I See” as a personal theme—I hope that something of Patti’s essence rubs off on them as a result. At the very least, kudos to KT for choosing such a mentor.
Suzanne takes me down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you knows that she’s half crazy
But that’s why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you’ve always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you’ve touched her perfect body with her mind.
Ulla, I still have this on vinyl…one of my fav songs!

Wonder what would happen if you could combine Dylan, Jimi and The Boss?
Anyway The Boss is one now with Thunder Road.
The screen door slams
Mary’s dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that’s me and I want you only
Don’t turn me home again
I just can’t face myself alone again
Don’t run back inside
darling you know just what I’m here for
So you’re scared and you’re thinking
That maybe we ain’t that young anymore
Show a little faith, there’s magic in the night
You ain’t a beauty, but hey you’re alright
Oh and that’s alright with me
Doob and the The Boss— sex, drugs and rocknroll all in one man lol Wish D. were here dancin’ with me where are you girl now that I need you?
Well, if we are talking about Rock & Roll Tina Turner. But if we are talking about R&B I would love to be the Queen of Hip & Hop and R&B Mary J. Blieg!
I saw Joan Baez perform for the Harrisburg 7, she showed passion but she also was a women and back in the very early 70’s that was quite a combo… I was studying to be one of the two careers women could be…nurse or school teacher. To be on the road like Joan Baez… I never forgot that night so I pick Joan Baez
I just read that George Carlin died.
He rocked.
His seven words routine, willing to be arrested for what he believed in, host of the very first show of Saturday Night … he made folks laugh and be shocked and think. I associate him with high school and college and being open to new ideas. He was only 71.

Just read that too in the NYTimes—whoa! I’s still assimilating this—too soon George—too damn soon, man.
Tough choice.
Bette Midler - a lady that rocks the world in her own special way, never afraid to open her mouth.. and she’s so funny too!!
Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Cher, Enya are others on my list.
As for male artists.. Elvis, Mike Oldfield, Meat Loaf, Billy Joel, Cozy Powell (aah - to be able to play the drums like he did…his life was too short) are some on the list.
I would have to pick Shania Twain. Currently licking some emotional wounds, I would come back stronger than ever!
I can’t narrow it down to one rock star…………but Crosby-Still-Nash, the CSN album absolutely rocks!
I’d be Allison Krauss - I know you said rock star and she’s blue grass, but her voice is divine. Her duet with Shanendoah on “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” is one of my all time favorite songs.
