If you were a rock star, who would you be?

Judith Martin ... Undressed?

Undoubtedly someone wearing fewer clothes than I do.

Joan Ganz Cooney

Joan Ganz Cooney: 'No Thanks!'

I wouldn’t be a rock star … ANY rock star.

Cynthia McFadden: Not Just About the Singing

Aretha Franklin … ah, to be able to sing like the hippest of the angels and eat whatever you want.

Candice Bergen: What They Said

Rock Star?? Taken already by more intrepid wow’ers: Aretha and Tina.

Mary Wells

Mary Wells: It's a Toss-Up

I would be Bono. He is a happy man and should be, he is a natural actor, he is very funny and can tell a great story, he is devoted to a family and friends who love him dearly, he is working to make the world a better place. Otherwise I would be Mick Jagger. He is much more complicated and probably less happy but he is adorable.

Julia Reed

Julia Reed: How Does He Do That?

Mick Jagger, no question. He has really cool houses and a great decorator — David Mlinaric — and a whole bunch of money and a smart good-looking girlfriend and he always looks like he’s having a lot of fun. He is also in amazing shape. I mean, I can hardly talk to my friend, Vesta, when we fast-walk together and ole Mick is running around and jumping up and down onstage and SINGING for God’s sake. So yeah, Mick, definitely.
Jane Wagner

Jane Wagner: For Talent and Epic Endurance

The ones I would have chosen have already been taken. So I’ll say Keith Richards … for talent and epic endurance. (He can fall out of a coconut tree and still rock n roll all over the world.) Or, Amy Winehouse because I think she’s an interesting artist, and I always wanted to go to Russia with all expenses paid. Next would be Grace Slick.
Lily Tomlin

Lily Tomlin: Just One Won't Do

If I were a rock star, I’d be Annie Lennox and David Bowie. Who I really want to be is Tom Waits!!!!!!
Liz Smith

Liz Smith | 06/23/2008 12:00 am

Liz Smith: Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll

Probably Willie Nelson, but in my real dreams I’d like to be all of the Supremes. They’re the ones I loved and used to dance to back in the old days of sex, drugs, rock ’n’ roll.

Allison qualifies as a rock star because she can hold her own with Robert Plant!

I must not have the imagination for this question cuz try as I might.. i can’t think of a rock star I’d want to “be”! However… with no imagination at all I can think of a half dozen I’d like to “do”… :)

For rock I ditto the Keith Richardson choice… and as debauched as humanly possible. Broadening musically. John Lennon - during the Yoko years.

Eric Johnson - not only the cutest man in the world but the best living guitar player, innovator, and a voice like an angel. And so intelligently avoid that megastardom that make paparatti ruin your life. Or maybe Stevie Nicks or Avril Lagavne. No, Eric Johnson is the right choice.

Oh, Patty Smith, she is and always has been pure, raw, energy, love her… how about Chryssie Hynde? definitely Janice, then there’s Elvis Costello, Bruce, Kurt Cobain, Michael Stipe… but if I had to pick one I would like to be it would have to be my poet, John Lennon.

Eric Clapton - he is the the one for me - I said once he gave me a wet dream - can women have wet dreams? If I could be a rock star it would be him - the guitar talent is unbelievable.

I’m late to this party because my internet connection has been down until this morning. I hope some of you are still out there! Since gender isn’t an issue, there is no question who I would be and that is Roger Daltrey, lead singer and cofounder of The Who. He can and has done it ALL. You want a rock ‘n roll scream: “Won’t Get Fooled Again”. Angry Youth Anthem: “My Generation”, “Going Mobile” (well maybe not so angry, but Hippy Gypsy, anybody?) . Need a pretty ballad? “Behind Blue Eyes” , “Bargain”, “The Song Is Over”. Funny? “Squeeze Box” : Mama’s got a squeeze box She wears on her chest And when Daddy comes home He never gets no rest ‘Cause she’s playing all night And the music’s all right Mama’s got a squeeze box Daddy never sleeps at night” And then there is the Rock Opera “Tommy”. Oh, yes, in my world Roger Daltrey is incomparable. The album “Who’s Next” has rightfully been named on many lists: Desert Island Albums, Have to Hear Before You Die, etc. And if the Rock ‘n Roll Gods don’t feel like granting me that fantasy, then maybe they will consider another: Ray Davies of The Kinks. Why? The opening notes of “You Really Got Me”. ‘Nuff Said.

Great Choices Peg! I had forgotten about ‘Tommy’ and that hysterical squeeze box song.

Thanks, CA - Gotta love that song, dontcha? At a family reunion in Michigan, my brother and I played it (he on guitar, I sang) for my 80 year old uncle. He about fell off his chair. We also played “Parachute Woman” by the Stones. (“Parachute Woman, Land on Me Tonight”). It was fun and we were definitely going for the shock value ;-)

If I were to pick a male rock star it would have to be Mick Jagger…oh the stories he must have! If female, Bonnie Raitt, now that is one cool rocker chick.
