Liz Smith: 'A Crock and a Snare'

What do I think of Scientology? I think it’s a crock, a snare, a delusion and I don’t think it is even a true religion. But it’s a free country so to each his own.

This includes all of you who believe in angels which I doubt exist. And I do have some friends in Scientology and I love them in spite of it – John Travolta, for instance, a terrific guy in my view.

'Feels Like a Cult,' Says Joan Ganz Cooney

I know very little about it. It has the feel of a cult to me but I’m sure Scientologists would disagree.

Mary Wells: How Scary Is Scientology?

Scientology was an interesting book that has gone through some frightening changes and is now just another idea with a few famous believers. It seems to have passed its threatening stage in which case it is not important to anyone who doesn’t take it seriously.

I laughed so hard when I read your post, Star, I nearly wet myself. THAT’s a good laugh.

There is a website called Wikileaks.org that publishes a lot of the “secret” writings of the higher ups in Scientology. Very interesting reading. In my humble opinion, these people are nuts!

I started to read Dianetics years ago, and it felt like a Cult to me. In 1950, L. Ron Hubbard (1911-1986) published Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. Hubbard tells the reader that dianetics “…contains a therapeutic technique with which can be treated all inorganic mental ills and all organic psycho-somatic ills, with assurance of complete cure….” He claims that he has discovered the “single source of mental derangement” (Hubbard 6). I read the book “Dianetics” years ago. It is full of crap. I can’t believe some of the stars really believe it is a religion or of any value at all. It has a really stupid message.

Question, does anyone know what the significance of the secret wording, code speech is all about? They have their own language, why? Anyone have any knowlege about this? And do you think Tom and Nicoles break up had anything to do with scientology? On that note, I have to be a bit suprised at Nicole kidmans passivity at the kids being raised in such a wacked out religion. She seems like like a very grounded ,level headed person. Thoughts? You know, my faith brings me joy, peace and an abundance of love and acceptance for others. Then I look at poor little Katie Holmes. She went from being an adorable bubbly little 20 something with a sparkle in her eye, to a scrawny sunken withdrawn hallowed woman who rarely smiles much less exudes joy. Yeah, that a religion I want!!

Yeah, you are right, Kelly. I need to go now and jump up and down on my couch for a while. I am so excited today.

Actually, I don’t think the “stars” are stupid. I think the founder of the “religion” wrote a stupid book. I was stupid for reading the whole thing but I kept reading it hoping I could get something out of it to support my spending the amount of time I had spent reading it. Gosh, the volcano thing really made me wonder about my depression issues.

I think everyone should be free to follow whatever they belive in. But I still think Scientology is creepy, and I don’t really think of it as a religion…
