I USED TO THINK IT WAS JUST MY BLADDER TELLING ME TO TINKLE, HOWEVER, ONE EARLY 4AM I COULD HEAR A TRAIN IN THE DISTANCE. NOW I NOTICE THAT EACH TIME I AWAKE AT 4AMTHERE’S THE TRAIN AGAIN. AFTER CHECKING WITH THE CSX PEOPLE I FOUND THAT INDEED THEY HAVE A 4AM TRAIN EACH AM. SOMETIMES I LIE AWAKE THINKING WHAT FUN IT WOULD BE TO TAKE A TRAIN TRIP AGAIN.

pure and simple, worrying about money. it’s the scariest time of day, and it’s the scariest thing to worry about, so they seem to go hand in hand. martha frankel

Most of the time it is my bladder…those water pills. Or a dream…if it’s scary I might worry about it for awhile and try to analyze what it might mean? Lots of times really good things (creative things) come to mind….an invention, or a design idea, color of paint? Those are the ones I always try to remember…because at the time I am convinced it’s all really good ideas. …and I’m on to something…then I go back to sleep and try to remember what the idea was that I had to bgin with. Go figure.

I have a puppy that needs to take a walk in the dark backyard and sniff interesting smells and empty her little bladder.

I am a psychotherapist and have been for 30 years. Usually the problems of people I work with do not wake me up at night. However, when someone I’m seeing is in such serious distress that she is considering suicide, I cannot always keep my fear far enough away from my mind and it might wake me up. Other than that I love my work and can usually put it away before I lay me down to sleep!!!!

I usually wake up from my own snoring and to pee. Then I begin to worry about money, job stability, my daughter…you name it.

Usually I have to pee but then the mind starts turning … did I remember to put the clothes in the dryer? Is he thinking of me right now? What kind of mood will my teenage daughter be in when we start our day? Where am I working today? Does that mean heels or flats? Or maybe… could it be??? YES! Casual day!!! Not much chance of going back to sleep if I wake after 4:00 a.m. so I might as well get up and start the day.

I usually wake up then and turn on BBC overnight to hear what really has happened in the world. I lay there quietly and watch the sun hit the tree tops outside. It is my favorite time of day.
