This weekend - trust me - I have plans that are going to be hard to beat. It will be sun and sand, never-ending changing scene filled with excitement as I watch the sexiest and most desirable male sea lions on the Pacific coast vie to be the top man - the George Clooney of the marine world. And if you can promise to keep a secret - well, we KNOW every woman can, don’t we? - I will tell you where you can get a tan, great Mexican food a stone’s throw away, and be entertained for hours by the Pacific Ocean’s biggest and best looking 600 pound males looking their best, sunning with harems that even Clooney would die to have surrounding him adoringly, but fighting and making the most loud and frightening remarks (in sea lion language, of course) in this constant struggle in that California world that makes males everywhere just have to be “top of the heap”! The story: our government built a waterside pier for people in the quaint oceanfront fisherman village of Moss Landing for a cool $800,000. Trust me, it curves and is plenty cool. But word travels far more quickly it seems in the underwater world of the Pacific that there has been the newest, latest resort on the waterfront that has obviously been built for the biggest, fastest, and sleekest Pacific sea lions. It has to be theirs - it is at water level, long and utterly gorgeous. These 600 pound giants of the sea sped there in droves, eager to get the prime property to show off their scores of women. Soon over 600 and counting - with hundreds trying to get up on the fourth level of sunning Clooneys - are already spouting the vilest sea lion language that we have heard - to warn interlopers that they were not wanted. Really, ladies, you must not bring the kids. If one or two of you want to drop in on us at the beach at the water’s edge at Moss Landing, CA - well, look for the couple who are fast developing a deep tan and have already chosen their favorite George Clooney duplicate in the marine world and are the cheering section on shore to be sure he remains “top of the heap” -as - well - we ladies know that the most outstanding males just “must be” in the California scene. When I tell you that I promise this is going to be a “once in a lifetime” experience with the added and delicious pleasures of the sun, the sea, the sand, and the slightly shameful feeling of being a voyeur on top of it all, try to top this. We are packed!!

This weekend I want to lie around … in front of a fan as they ‘promised’ us a first heat wave in NY … and deal with the Henry James’ that Judith Martin has so shamefully abandoned … really true too, just finished The Turn of the Screw and (for research) have to read What Maisie Knew and Washington Square …

Who said summer weekends were made to lie around ?. I think starting rumors are cruel and can be unusual punishment depending on the lie of course. I stopped lying when I was 14, I thought it was about time. Please those of you who can’t stop yourself there are yahoo self help groups on line. “Don’t lie it can be harmful to your health” This ad was brought to you by liars enormous, I mean unanimous.. ah nominees, anonymous ya that’s it…anonymous

Can you imagine a liar’s club? You would never be sure of the meeting’s time or place.

friends on Saturday…invited them over when I thought the weather wouldn’t be so great. So I’ll spend the day cooking up a storm and the evening laughing with my husband and friends. Sunday, though…Sunday will be spent at our cottage on a little lake, floating in my inflatable raft with a big hat, sunglasses, gobs of sunblock and a great (but light) book. Any summer reading recommendations?
