Thank you all ladies. I feel much better now about the outrageous price I just paid for a pair of sunglasses!…my stacks and stacks of magazines (I finally have begun to not renew subscriptions!) and lots of toys for my dog when she’s perfectly happy just lying around on an old blanket!
i have this enormous collection of Hermes scarves that have never been worn and probably will never wear, Hermes shoes, boots etc. they all sit in my closet and I do feel so guilty that I spent all that money and I don’t lead that kind of lifestyle anymore. My son and daughter, my grandchildren , my sister and family are what I care about. I like to travel especially to California to see my daughter and grandchildren. My retirement is about learning new things and freedom to do what I choose. L.T.3/29 a little after midnight
Lois, Susan, Johanna etc……To get rid of guilt fairy on shoulder and also create vacuum for new energy..package up things don’t need and take to someone/place that does….VA/Nursing home/bus/train station/waiting room for magazines…….Clothing to those places that provide interview clothes/strategy for disenfranchised women etc. It’s very cleansing, I think, to get rid of stuff that is just dead energy…or makes you feel guilty when look at it. But then I’m one of those ‘editor’ types….someone gives me an expensive gift like fancy camera outfit (and don’t take pictures do watercolors of what I want to remember) then will have a student say, Gee I wish I had a nice camera…my response is, take it. Think it is freeing to let things go to people who can benefit….even a small thing. If sitting in hospital waiting room a transporting magazine article can feel heaven sent. I notice that the more I give away things I don’t need to someone who does—the more things that I do want seem to just show up. Since the unbreakable law of the universe is balance and equal return…this just makes sense to me.
Bottled water! Such a waste of money and resources, not to mention a contributor to pollution! And if that’s not bad enough, for years I had giant bottles (water cooler size) delivered to my home. That stuff’s no healthier, better tasting or “purer” than what comes out of my faucet. Finally, I “got it” and ended my relationship with Arrowhead home delivery and bought a faucet mounted water filter that does a better job of purifying my drinking water. That’s a yearly savings of about $500! Where was my head?
DVDs … my husband’s soda (however, it’s the only ‘vice’ he has … so i shouldn’t complain) … annuals for my flower beds … getting my nails done every three weeks …
To KB,
Thanks for asking! Yes, I do work outside the home…full time. And this is why I have not given up my cleaning help. Also, I hired her when I was pregnant with my 2nd child, 20 years ago…I trust her and know that she counts on the money every other week. She has raised her prices and I’m pretty certain that I could get help for less.. But I don’t have the heart to let her go. She is no “spring chicken” herself and I doubt she could find a fill in at this point in her life. Can’t see my husband starting to help clean toilets!
Anti-aging anythings, premium TV packages (believing I’ll find something, other than HBO, that I actually want to spend my time watching), another pair of black slacks.
