I forgot about the balloon drop…..sorry to be a party-pooper but that seems like such as extravagent, and undoubtedly ecological, waste. It used to be a few, now it’s a sea that flows forever and consumes the entire floor. Will Joe Biden’s 50K word speech continue through all of that?
Actually, now that it looks like it’s O’Biden (ha) am getting pretty excited. I saw Joe Biden on the speculation that caused the foreclosure nightmare…he was right on. Here he is at his home handing coffee/bagels to the press: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QKc2yPEQLo
There were some other clips of this and nice to see Wilmington DE’s familiar landscape. We have friends that live across a golf course there it’s very rolling, gree, country like and the Brandywine River Museum has the Andrew Wyth collection…very nice (or did when I was last there). CNN and other outlets have staked out his house for weeks and say there’s been a flurry of activity with even a police car showing up.
Fightin’ Joe Biden. I like that. The more I think of it…good team. Hopefully HRC will be Sec of State. And Chuck Hagel maybe Sec of Defense. Getting exciting.
Fri 11PM EST ABC says Secret Service dispatched to Biden’s home in Wilmington.

1:15 a.m. NBC has officially called it Biden. Winery, thank you for putting this post on. I emailed it to some of my friends.
It’s past my bedtime, I can’t go on….
Great link, Winery. Thank you. I’ve been dancing for an hour now, celebrating Sen Obama’s choice: Sen. Joe Biden. Glorious. I wanted to hear their voices and now that I have, I’m going to bed to dream. Good night and thank you again.
Diana & Rockyx2—I’m happy too. It’ll be good to hear what Obama says Sat. Wonder what Cabinet/Sec will offer HRC? Or maybe she’ll take over for Harry Reid’s majority whip position…that would be good, too. How does that happen? Too tired to look it up, am sure De Burca knows!

I would let the rest of you go back and forth on your predictions of the weeks to come. Whether you are Democrat or Republican - we are all WOWS here, aren’t we - so if you are going to watch the convention next week,
the child I consider my godchild almost - a wonderful young girl, brilliant and our youngest US Senator - is going to be what I think will be the only WOMAN speaking at the convention on Monday AND on Tuesday nights.
You know me — so you know I wouldn’t kid you — Amy Klobuchar may be a U.S. Senator (MN) but with all her abilities, she is still the girl she was so long ago. Success hasn’t gone to her head — and as to predictions, I think it is Amy who may be the first woman president in 8 years. She is well liked by both sides and definitely on the rise.
Forgive me for being proud — for she is a grounded Minnesota girl - so let’s hope you see her talking Monday night and Tuesday night (a record) and like her. Think you will be seeing her more and more!! :-)
Joan,
Thank you so much for telling us that. I am proud for you and her. I haven’t watched a convention in years, just bits and pieces here and there, but now you have given me a reason to watch at a certain time. I am not a democrat, but will try to catch Amy.
Liz
I am with you, I feel the same way. I don’t usually watch them because they are really just a big party for the delegates and the party heads paid for by party donations. A lot of back slapping etc. People think they are supporting a candidate but they are also throwing a big bash for their party. I really believe the primaries should just be an up and down vote in March and April. Get the candidates back to work for awhile, then summertime hit the campaign trail when congress is on recess.
We are such a foolish people to let all of this nonsense go on. Paying congress people $165,000 per year to work 1 1/2 days as week, where they show up for a 15 minute vote, and spend the rest of the time courting special interests so they can get re elected again. Okay, I won’t go on, but we are the ones that have let our freedoms be diminished by this stacked system.

In regards to the Congress, you are so very right.
I believe term limits would keep the club changing, give a chance for younger people to participate and even create a pool of fresh talent from which to pick a president. A third political party wouldn’t hurt either. Right now, we are stagnating and sadly corrupt. All is not lost, however. We all have an opportunity to forget about party loyalty and vote out the incumbents. There is truly no other way to shake it up.
Marjorie- “Forget about party loyalty and vote out the incumbents.” I’m with you on there. Starting with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Joe Liberman, Larry Craig, David Vitter, anyone who supporter Bush….oh well, paraphrase Liz Smith…I only have one life….
Marjorie,
You are so right, we are stagnating, and it is really sad. Hey, I am an independent, if more people left their parties and registered as independents, it would send a message to the parties. If they saw more of their ranks leaving, who are they going to ask for more money to support their ambitions? What kind of job is it really? We have gotten so far away from the original principle.
Hey, has anyone heard from Lady Gator. If we are not hearing from her she may be in the middle of the flood. Lady Gator? Is that you waving from that yellow and orange kayak on the news? I hope not.
I agree - make term limits, vote out the incumbents - but then stop the retirement that they get for having been there!! They make so much for the rest of their life for not doing much while they are there.
