1) The break up of the family 2) Certain countries thinking they can police the world and know what’s good for other countries. 3) Women still not sharing real power w/men in every situation throughout the world. 4) The fact that there is still hunger, poverty etc in the world. 5) Cruelty to animals, research on animals, the wearing of fur etc . 6) The irresponsibility towards our world’s children, water, forests, resources etc. 7) Cloning, GM food etc
MS/Cynthia—I think it is ironic to mention the Code of Hammurabi since it arose from the cradle of civilization….that we are decimating…and that there is also a hole in the ozone the size of the United States when we are 5% of he world’s population and contribute 25% to it’s waste and global warming. Here is a link to the Code of Hammurabi include Louvre Museum with photos of relics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_of_Hammurabi
And MS an excellent article on food and poverty. It is estimated that $20B would feed the world’s hungry, hunger and misery feed the despair that fuels terrorism….$20B is loose change compared to the $3 trillion dumped into the Tigris Euphrates for Bush Inc invasion.

I actually like everything everyone has listed. Mine are arrogance, deliberate ignorance where you know better but you just don’t care , rankism (which pretty much covers all the usual isms) overindulgence, sense of entitlement and not taking care of the planet which includes humankind, animals, birds , plants and everything that lives and breathes here.
Somewhere in our youth-focused, tech-worshipping, still
male-dominated, over-booked, celebrity-oriented culture
are at least the “original” seven and several more.
War: the worst sin of all from one who has experienced that little thrill in life; child and spousal abuse of any stripe, not caring enough about the planet to take care of it—it’s home people!; self-willed ignorance and any religion that promulgates said ignorance; racism; the arrogance of those in power who caused yet another war resulting in how deaths so far , George? Dick?
Frank—agree…as President Eisenhower said:
“Disarmament, with mutual honor and confidence, is a continuing imperative. Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose. Because this need is so sharp and apparent I confess that I lay down my official responsibilities in this field with a definite sense of disappointment. As one who has witnessed the horror and the lingering sadness of war – as one who knows that another war could utterly destroy this civilization which has been so slowly and painfully built over thousands of years – I wish I could say tonight that a lasting peace is in sight.
……To all the peoples of the world, I once more give expression to America’s prayerful and continuing aspiration:
We pray that peoples of all faiths, all races, all nations, may have their great human needs satisfied; that those now denied opportunity shall come to enjoy it to the full; that all who yearn for freedom may experience its spiritual blessings; that those who have freedom will understand, also, its heavy responsibilities; that all who are insensitive to the needs of others will learn charity; that the scourges of poverty, disease and ignorance will be made to disappear from the earth, and that, in the goodness of time, all peoples will come to live together in a peace guaranteed by the binding force of mutual respect and love.”
Of course, Ike was a Republican and also a General and war hero, unlike our VP Dick who got five deferments because he had “other priorities” and yet now says he wants “war to last our lifetime.” Hell of a guy, hmm.
Failing (refusing?) to love one another.
Thinking you are better than the person next to you on the subway, or in your office, or at the deli, or anywhere.
Ignorance, racism, are the top of my list. Waste( go look at your local dump ), not caring about your job ( even if you have a low level job, do the best job possible!), stop telling me what religion I should be, give everyone the freedom to think for themselves. I will get off my soap box, I have too much to add.
