What Does Liz Smith Know for Sure?

What I know for sure is that I know nothing for sure and my ideas, philosophies and dreams are all subject to change. I try to stay open minded.

Jane Wagner: What Do I Know for Sure?

I know for sure …

… that thinking I know something for sure can often result in ‘Rude Awakenings.’

… that Hope springs Eternal but Pessimism is even more agile.

… that there is a thin line between inspiration and stupid ideas.

… that to love someone without reservation is the best thing you can do for yourself.

… that materialism leads to clutter.

… that we are all, as Camus said, products of the choices we make.

… that nano technology is the Big Idea for the future.

… that androids do not dream of electric sheep. Androids are insomniacs – but don’t tell Philip Dick.

… that there are too many reality shows.

… that computers will not take over the world, because as Lewis Thomas said, “They are incapable of ambiguity.”

… that a problem left to itself will remain a problem until we interfere.

… that human nature is the main obstacle to our realizing our human potential.

… that trends never last.

… that absurdity has become too commonplace.

… that reality is a packaging concept for crowd control.

… that I love chocolate, but chocolate, even the dark kind is not good for me. Yes, it has many antioxidants but it has many more calories.

… that the sun always rises in the east and sets in the west, but the moon is less predictable.

… that we desperately need advancement in battery technology. But lithium is often used in the treatment of bipolar disorders so we may not have enough lithium to go around. It may come down to batteries or brains.

… that my animals expect too much of me.

… that I expect too much of myself.

… that I will never live up to those expectations — I expect.

… that I can’t always depend on myself.

… that perfectionism causes procrastination.

… that self-esteem comes from doing the right thing.

… that when you lose your moral compass, a GPS device won’t get you back on track.

… that happiness is more chemistry than situational.

… that appreciation helps create the chemistry for happiness.

Thanks Serena Yes, there are all types of rejection. To be ignored and treated with indifference is very hurtful. Some people just don’t know how to love, or it is in a limited way. I agree pppptttttthhhhhhh!!! LOL.

Mugs: The baby at the Zoo is not a Bonobo, it is a gorilla. The Bobono is of the Chimpanzee family. From what I know about mother primates rejecting their offspring is minimal, but I do know that it happens more frequently with gorillas. Since they live in a patriarchal society they depend on the males who father these offspring to defend and take care of them. Perhaps since this Gorilla mother has no defender she’s bereft, therefore unable to be maternal. In the Bonobo society nobody knows whose offspring is whoms since everybody pronks everybody else and maternal rejection is uncommon. Eagles, who mate for life, are known for the males taking the more nurturing part in their raising of offspring. Sometimes the male has to teach the female how to feed her young. Ah, nature, we are all of one.

LOL Kelly. I know for sure that when God is put in the mix things turn out for the best every single time even when it don’t seem like it at the time.

As the old song goes……. Everything must change….nothing stays the same. Everyone must change….no one stays the same. The young become the old, and mysteries do unfold. Because that’s the way of time, nothing and no one goes unchanged. There are not many things in life we can be sure of, except….. rain falls from the clouds, the sun lights up the sky and hummingbirds do fly……..and everything must change.

I know that God is Good all the time and His Mercy Endures Forever. God has taught me, sustained me, protected me and loved me more that I could ever deserve. And I know that what He has done for me is available to everyone. In these very tough times, I can’t take credit for how much I am blessed to still have a job, home and health—it’s with 100% certainty through God’s Grace.

For certain ? <> The vast majority seem to believe in one God…and yet they can’t seem to recognize that reality and/or get along with each other. Heaven needs to be created on earth … just in case. <> The population of man will soon exceed the resources that sustain. <> The belief that what children aren’t taught will somehow prtotect them from harm…and yet it is always the opposite. Knowledge is power. <> Personalities can be exhausting. <> Beauty is as beauty does still works… not celebrity and shallowness

I know that I did a fine job raising my oldest son. (Jury is still out on the 11 and 13 year old…work in progress) I know that my husband loves me. I know that I have lived a truly blessed life, and even the hard times were a blessing, as they taught life lessons I treasure.
