I’m late to this question, but what a fun trip down memory lane - reminded me of many shows that I miss:
I don’t think anyone mentioned Sports Night - thought it was excellent
Taxi - just thinking of Jim (not sure of the name) taking his driver’s license test makes me laugh out loud
PBS - Upstairs downstairs, All creatures
And many of the ones already mentioned - made me think of a question: Who was your favorite character on Northern Exposure - wow, so many to choose from. Remeber the gay marine saying to Maurice: “Sempre Fi”
Thanks for the Taxi laugh back…”What does the stop sign mean?” Some lines remain forever classic. While reading through everyone, it made me remember a cute little song of one of my favorites and I’m not embarassed in any way…”Where, where are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world o’er and I thought I’d fine true love, but you found another and phhttt you were gone.”
I have never been much of a TV watcher however I did enjoy:
Masterpeice Theater
The French Chef
Get Smart
All in the Family
Perhaps around 1965 I saw a series on PBS of American Dance performances which was the first time I had seen Modern Dance. I was absolutely enchanted by Merce Cunningham performance of “Rain Forest”. Later at my college, University of South Florida, the Merce Cunningham group performed “Rain Forest” and I had a front row seat. The live performance was more spectacular than TV could ever hope to be!
My favorites:
Omnibus - The re-enactment of the train carrying Abraham Lincoln’s
body through the countryside to his burial, people standing by the tracks.
Edward R. Murrow - Interviewing Fidel Castro
Soupy Sales - He lived in my neighborhood, and I’d see him at the market with his two gigantic boxers.
Playhouse 90
American Bandstand ca 1957-60
Sid Caesar
Ernie Kovacks
You Bet Your Life - Groucho Marx
Alfred Hitchcock
Taxi
Welcome Back Kotter
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
Sesame Street - Raul Julia was hot!
Julia Childs
Homicide
The Wire
The Sopranos
I’ll see if I can put these in order as I used to watch — year to year….
Kukla Fran and Ollie
The Dave Garaway Show
Your Show of Shows
Ed Sullivan Show
Ted Mack Amateur Hour
Bonanza
Wagon Train w/Ward Bond and a VERY young Clint Eastwood
