You are right. wOw has become a big part of my procrastination. Have tried to trim that down.
The internet, tv, reading, and organizing. I can spend hours on wow, facebook, and email. I have to tell myself ok only one more article and then you need to go do what you are putting off. I like to think I have some control over this.
Yes, I think many of us underestimate the Internet. It saved my life last December ~ yet it’s useless trying to thank it. I focus on those on the ‘other end’ who respond. In many ways, it’s provided a vast new social group for us, insisting that we tred carefully, wisely, yet maintain our privacy. Interesting new technology in our lives, that’s constantly changing.
The Internet matrix enables us to reach so many people to support, help, learn from, and be with in glorious, and tragic times that were not possible in 1980 ~ it was far more “distant” then, wasn’t it.
I agree, especially when you said, “In many ways, it’s provided a vast new social group for us, insisting that we tred carefully, wisely, yet maintain our privacy.” I’m not much of a people person but for some reason I can talk to people through the internet with greater ease. Maybe, that is why I like email so much. I once saw a documentary on autism and how they were using computers to help kids with autism talk to each other it was really interesting.
LOL, we’re a mutual admiration society. It doesn’t help me spell better, though - I have to use adaptive computer programs, and often ignore the “reader’s” warnings. I’m fabulously stubborn, and enjoying it immensely.
As a fellow “doesn’t help me spell better” poster I have found a great option on my browser. It checks my spelling as I type, if I spell a word wrong it automatically underlines it in red. From there it is up to me to figure out what is wrong but it is a great heads up. And I believe I am a better speller for it :)
It is one of the many great features with “Firefox” - a free web browser. I am using, or should I say, my laptop came with Windows Vista and it supports IE. I have so many problems with Internet Explorer and would really like to remove it but that is not an option with Vista. So I just use Firefox and with the sites that insist you use IE there is an extension that with one click you can have a window or tab running it. As a matter of fact I have it open somewhere right now. It is depressing that Microsoft will not allow you to choose what you want. I can’t even get it off the computer. My desktop has Windows98 and I run Firefox, Netxcape and IE on it. I never had the time to (oops allowed the time) to remove anything.
If you want to check out the browser

Marisa, thank you - I use IE, have Opera too - but my problem is myself. I have to use adaptive software for the blind, so these busy websites, and those that are under-powered drive my “screen reader” nuts, so I “ignore him”. I use a mic and headset to dictate. HA. See what I mean?

Yes I understand - I am sorry for assuming that you, I guess this sounds stupid. Assuming that you were not blind. ?
No apologies necessary; offense not taken where none was intended — I’m laughing, actually. Most of the time, I don’t realize it either; however, I can see stuff pretty well, in my opinion. I’ve only had 3 mishaps (well, in public) due to these genes and Rubella or whatever childhood disease I had hit me (or my mother when I was merely brewing), and I’ve had excellent training, and preparation through Texas Blind Services (how I love those people). Hugs@cha Marisa.
