Jaki Kennedy ….. congratulations to you!! What an accomplishment. Kind of fits in with the posts above regarding trying desperately to hold on to as much of my mind as possible. At 52, I have often thought about completing college, but have convinced myself that my menopausal mind wandering and memory lapses would make that way too difficult. You are an inspiration!

Oh, no, no, no, Gianna. It took me 39 years to get through college.

In what context? Myself, my husband, our kids, our families, our friends, our pets, our health…… Or my talents, my mobile phone, my computer, my credit card, our photos……… Today…..

My favorite possession………….of course my children and grandchildren, even tho I do not ‘possess’ them. In pondering this , I realized that the golden yellow dress my Aunt Rose crocheted for me over 65 years ago and which is now framed and hanging on my wall has got to be one of my most treasured . Oh yes, the cute little tennis outfit that my 36 year old son wore when I brought him home from the hospital…his father was an avid tennis player at the time. Other than these ‘things’, my relationships top my list…especially after the love and affection I received yesterday, Mother’s Day.

Two things… I have a rose my grandfather gave me. It came from the floral arrangement that was on my grandmother’s casket at her funeral. I’m not sure why, out of all the grandchildren, he gave it to me, but I’ll keep it until fate prevents me from continuing to do so. The other thing is my wedding ring. It leaves my finger only when I’m cleaning it, and then it goes right back on.

My cat, Camilla Parker Bowles, a British short-hair. So, how do you post a picture?

I don’t have any ’ favourite’ possessions, I have great memories, which I guess could be considered possessions, around pictures and other trinkets from my friends and my travels. I guess if I had to name one, it’s the handmade Afghan vest my aunt gave me when I was a teenager. She spent time in Kabul with the US embassy there in the late sixties /early 70s. It doesn’t quite fit as welll as it used to but it still does fit and I have wonderful memories of her and her stories .

A wonderful barn scene picture my 10 year old daughter painted on canvas and in oils during her art class. She came home in tears and gave me this splendid picture and said maybe I could burn it. Being an artist myself I recognized her future talent as an artist. I immediately turned it over and taped on the back was the art teachers totally uncalled for and horrible degrading comments. And a huge “F” as the grade. The teacher disliked my child due to her own daughter’s jealously of other students. I was hot but did not call her. Instead I went to the both a local Art gallery as well as the university to have the picture rated. “Splendid” “Fabulous for her Age” and such were the responses. Their written analysis of her picture helped me to get the grade raised to an “A” by the school adminstrators. Later the teacher was fired after she did this same type of thing to a couple of others. The picture hangs where I can see it everyday. I am proud.

Talking about “Beating a Bully Back,” and I hope your daughter learned that as the greatest part of the lesson. Awesome.

Doll Lady/8:10AM—You have magnificent instincts! And followed them up with action! That was so important for your daughter’s lasting sense of self. The picture was a victory for you and your daughter. A badge of pride for you both! My brother once said go after a child if your sport is poking a Tigress with a sharp stick!! Congrats to you!

I am fortunate, as among my favorites are gifts from my loved ones…. A quartz sphere from my mother and the carved wooden base my daddy made for it from a tree on our family farm. The quilt my grandmother stitched by hand for our son when he was born. My grandfather’s alligator briefcase that he used in the 1940’s. My son’s artwork and writtings from when he was in school. The diamond earrings that I wear every day from my husband. My memories are most precious to me as they are always with me.
