My grandparents gave me A.A. Milne’s poetry book, “Now We are Six.” I have read these poems about Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin thousands of times. Inside, my grandmother wrote: To My Susie, with a little 1/2 next to the “six.” Then my grandfather enclosed it in book cover plastic that has helped maintain it’s condition for 42 years.
I can feel their love for me, every time I pick it up. I was the first grandchild of 5.
I’m not very sentimental. so truth be told… when the weather is bad my favorite posession is my lap top. Love this thing! When the weather is good my favorite posession is my motorcyle. And when the weather is only sort of good but not warm it’s my convertible. But I do drink every day out of a coffee mug I gave my mom for mothers day when I was a teen. And I sit curled up on the couch in a blanket my twenty something daughter crocheted me. Those things are love.
The word “possesion” brings to mind a material inanimate object, however it seems from other posts that I need to expand my definition. So…my most treasured possesion is the love of my spouse Diane who cannot imagine life without. This relationship is such a blessing and came when I was over 50.
Possession…I have no favorite possession because the reality of it is we truly own nothing. For as soon as we claim a possession it can be taken away, even a memory. So with that I contribute - relish seconds with zeal.
I have a few…my charm bracelets (I have four) that house memories of trips that I have made and special days that have passed since I was about 19. Also, the beautiful things that my children have made for me. Just yesterday I added to that category with the beautiful sign and cards they made me for mothers day. Along with breakfast in bed that included jelly on my sheets :-) I’m a very lucky mom.
Two pictures,,,,one a doctored photograph of my children,,,one had cancer,,,,and had no hair,,,,so someone erased hair from heads of the other six,,,,
and the other picture,,,a drawing given to me by a six year old daughter,,,,a picture of her on a horse,,,,with a cat next to her….and these words….I am happy and so is the cat.
This sentence has been used here for forty years to summarize good feelings in the house…….
BA S re 9:33 - I love that. When my youngest son was small he didn’t want to go into the theatre and when asked why, he said “dark in dere”. So when any of us don’t wan to do something and someone asks why - we say “dark in dere”
My husband (but can you really possess a person? OK, I’m being too literal), our three cats, and my mother’s Haviland china which she gave to me before her death.
