Liz Smith's Non-Surgical Facelift Story

No kidding, I say eye makeup. When I bother to fool with these old eyes of mine is when I go out and people demand to know if I’ve had a face lift. Visible eyebrows, eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara make a real finishing touch to one’s look. Also, I know it’s old-fashioned but you can’t beat lipstick. And not that black or bright red stuff either if you are over 40.

Carmel — Continue to keep us up to date on the fire —- but I haven’t read writing like you have done here on the details of this absolutely dream long strip of coast from there up to Carmel — and you know it so well and my Lord, you were so involved - thank goodness - in the details to keep it beautiful and upscale. I am WOW-ed!!!

I’m empathetic about the loss that fire brings, but a bit tired of bailing out those who insist on buiding and residing in dangerous areas, or that cause ecological problems. At what point do we begin to say “Buyer Beware??

My attitude towards life. I keep a song in my heart no ill thoughts. I top that off with plenty of water and Palmers Coco Butter.

I do not wear make up except for lipstick but I have it made, I have bathroom lights which are quite dim and soft, I look pretty good until I go to a restaurant and face their mirrors.

Jeannot … A wonderful mirror story as I know what you mean. One New Years Eve night, we were flying to Chile on what was the best airline in the world called LanChile. Little did we know that that special night was one that Chileans stayed home, did not travel. And perhap 20 of us were flying down economy on what was essentially an empty large plane. As soon as we took off, champagne was served. The plane was decked out with New years Eve decorations better than in any home, and we didn’t take much coercion to follow the stewardesses in a conga line up and down the long aisles, with more champagne inbetween. By midnight, the few passengers were friends that would take years to know that well - and a few of us (me) talked all night, while others spread out on three across seats for the night. But - after having to tell that part as it WAS unique and the most fun I had ever spent on an airline — you HAD to see the bathrooms. We are not talking half-a-closet size here — it was as if Liz Smith had demanded the very best in design. As you closed the door of this large spread, lights came on over a long mirror that ran forever. All I will say is that whatever those lights were, I NEVER wanted to get out of the bathroom as I HAD NEVER NEVER looked like a movie star before. The plain Jane was just plain beautiful in those lights — and I could have LIVED in the place and been happy. I practically climbed up to see what the lighting was but I would have paid very large bucks for it and installed it at home. And you know the saying: when you feel good, you look good. Well, I had it both on LanChile in a gorgeous large space that I made all my own — and often. After all, 20 in a plane for 350 — we had it all to ourselves and darling … Hollywood would have wanted me that night. The downside: never again was I gorgeous . . but I know what it is like!!!!!

Best Tip: Soap and water. After years spending and looking for the best beauty products and results, I conclude soap and water. Simple.

Tinted Moisturizer (sp?) have tried the expensive ones, and now use only “Wet n Wild” at less than four dollars a bottle. Under it, Vaseline Anti Age lotion. Never sleep in make up, oh, and before bed each night I massage olive oil on to my face. If you are thorough it won’t rub off on the pillows.

smiling, being good to others, and being basically content is the best beauty regiment - have you ever known anyone who was pretty but they weren’t so much because they were bitter, mean or wore a scowl all the time?

Really looking at other people in the eye and seeing their inner beauty makes me feel beautiful. Agree with the soap and water routine and moisturizer with sun screen if you consider skin as the most beautiful part of you. I feel beauty can’t be bought in a bottle.

The foundation for any beauty treatment is good, well cared for skin. The obligatory 8 hrs of zzz’s and lots of water to drink to keep hydrated. Do not cleanse with soap; I use Cetaphil, which is not very costly and is extremely easy on the skin. And, plenty of moiturizers and sunscreen. Every day. Morning and night. And, only then, can you think about makeup and eyes. One more thing I don’t see mentioned: Try to control your stress. Meditate. Relax. Deep Breathing. Stress causes lines. Oh, and one of the most damaging things you can do to your complexion is smoking.
