Let’s be clear. I wasn’t advertising my book. I was sharing how I came to arrive at the career I now have, and what came out of it. I was naming my accomplishment, something every woman should be encouraged to do. If I was advertising, I’d have put review quotes and a blurb.
PS - I’ve been spanked enough for my transgression. Please note the apology I posted yesterday, to be found near the end of the this comment list. Now let’s move on.

I am only answering your question, I don’t have an opinion whether or not you should have linked to your book. I don’t care. I enjoyed your post, but at one time or another, most of us get a post deleted. C’est la vie.
Hi Frannie, If that be the case, that would not really be fair as the Didi lady always advertises if you will, her site on manners….No different than someone’s book title being used in their posting’s…Ya think? :)

I would have to agree if she is selling something. I think there was info on Heather’s site about where the book could be purchased. I don’t know. One of the advertisers was a book dealer so maybe no conflict of interest. Hmmmm?
Yes and the Didi lady’s web site is advertising her buisness, which has something to do with the “how to” in the field of manners. perhaps since WoW offers books through their site, they may have felt that Heather’s was a conflict of interest. I say whats good for the goose, is good for the gander. And, if they want no one to advertise their (wares if you will), then that should stand for everyone and not just a select few. :)
Heather,
If you look back in your archives……….it’s still there.
I got your website address and went there…………I intend to read about your book.
I have a granddaughter who was kidnapped 32 years ago (never found)………she had Cystic Fibrosis.
I wonder everyday if she is still alive. I know the life span is usually under 40 years. She was 5 years old when taken.
Other women have put their web page address on Wowowow………….
I’m doing it now: RETIREMENT!
I had two careers: 1) USAF - went in to avoid Vietnam, but serve my country. Thought I’d get out in the minimum four years. Was stationed in the Philippines at 3.2 years into my enlistment. Loved it so much I stayed in the PI for 5+ years and decided to become a “lifer” (≥20 years). Within 3-months of returning to the US, knew it wasn’t for me. Discharged at 8.3 years.
2) After graduating UC Berkeley in Biology (and a woefully-too-short semi-career in the US Park Service), landed a job at Genentech, Inc., which became the most rewarding thing I’d ever done. 19 years, 5 months later I retired, which is the ABSOLUTE most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
and unlike Kryssi, but like my father, I’ve never, ever grown up.

I wish my son who is getting out of the army in June (hopefully he won’t be stopped lossed for Afghanistan) could talk to you. He is interested in Organic Chemistry. Always had a great science mind. As sophomores in HS they have a science test given them to see what they do and don’t know. There are 65 questions and honors science students usually score between 26-28 (because most of the material on the test is on areas they have not been taught yet. Anyway, I got calls from the school and the state about his scores because he scored 47. 20 points higher than the average honors student. As a child his nose was always in a science book, he really taught himself by reading reading reading. We never went to a bookstore or library where he didn’t come out with books. Getting him to focus on the future has not been easy. Any free advice?
The only advice I’d feel comfortable giving him would be to go for his ideal. If it turns out that’s not organic chem (a favorite subject of mine, but also one of the most difficult if you don’t have a photographic memory! I don’t, by the way, which is why I didn’t do an Org Chem major), no sweat. He should go with his gut feeling about his interests and abilities, and not fear changing paths at any time. I imagine he’s learnt a lot about getting things done during his Army stint (nothing like it for getting the kinks out of your life), so college’ll probably be a cake-walk for him.
I hope he’ll get home to you soon!
My story is probably like many women of our generation. In HS in the early 60s the choices were pretty much teacher, nurse, secretary ( and for Catholic School girls … the nunnary ! ), we were not encouraged to try anything else. ” Get a nice little job that you can do until you find a man and get married” I was always drawing pictures, took every art class available and had the dream of going to Rhode Island School of Design … not going to happen ! First, my parents saw definite signs of “hippie-ness” showing in me, and , more pervasive, I learned much later that the nuns were very discouraging of anything but Catholic Schools and would not send good letters of recommendation to “those ” schools. So I went to a nice catholic woman’s college and became a first grade and art teacher. And, like so many friends, got engaged senior year ( if not, you would “be on the shelf” forever ) got married, worked a few years until I had my children and then stayed home.
But, ahh, the story does not end there. My mother would come and babysit one day a week so i could get out to take a class, and after a few crafty ones ( cake decorating etc. ) I discovered calligraphy and knew I had found what i was meant to do. I’ve now been a working calligrapher and wedding designer for 30 years, formed a local Guild, been involved in all kind of fun, interesting projects, and best of all, work from my home, which gives me the opportunity to stay involved in the schools and community
The only down side for a “chatty Cathy” like me is the hours in my studio working alone, but ALAS ! along comes wOw and I have endless hours of conversation to check in on when I take breaks !!

Did you do your avatar? It is beautiful. What a wonderful art. It gives me such pleasure to see it.
I have never done pen calligraphy but begged my Chinese professor into teaching me Chinese brush calligraphy. Getting the urge to pull my stuff out again. It has been a long long time.
