Why Candice Bergen Wants to Know if They Serve Turkey in Ethiopia

On Thanksgiving, my husband and I will be in Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia, with my daughter who is there for a year volunteering. We will be taking the American doctor she works for and his 17 kids and interns to a restaurant that serves a Thanksgiving dinner. What that could be, I don’t want to think but it could be a goat … or a camel?

Oh, No! Is Liz Smith Cooking?

I’ll be sweating as a sous chef in a very nice kitchen in Manhattan. I can’t cook but I can wash, sort, clean, separate and wait tables. I’d rather not say exactly where I’ll be as the other guests invited might not come.

Judith Martin Wants Seconds

At my daughter’s, saying, "Oh, no, thank you, dear, I really shouldn’t, but — well, maybe just a tiny touch more, because it’s so good." And that’s just about the hors d’oeuvres and the prosecco, because dinner will not yet have started.

Joan Juliet Buck to Party With a Very Popular Man on Thanksgiving

Sitting down with friends, and if we are lucky, the painter Brad Kahlhamer will join us. Brad is Native American, and because of this he is in great demand at Thanksgiving, and committed to appear at at least five Thanksgiving feasts.

Hi Southern….I have had a “Maid Freed From The Gallows” moment…..a glorious reprieve from a dreadful holy day of obligation at my daughter’s second husband’s in-laws’ extended dysfunctional family’s big house of horrors…..Turns out her husband had several sibling dust-ups yesterday and so all bets are off. Praise Be! So…about the napping…good plan….But with an unexpected free day, everything looks good….even washing windows. ….Nah…… But, by way of the southern sisterhood, I would recommend to your attention “The Closer” marathon on cable today…..I missed all of them for some reason….Don’t you love Kyra Sedgewick? I love drawling broads who disarm with charm…. Happy TG to you…..to y’all…….

My daughter is doing Thanksgiving this year which means it’s at her home and I’ll be helping as she falls into the “how do I get everything done at the same time?” panic. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Dear Wow pals, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!!!! We do not celebrate it down here (we are melting at around 100 Farenheit this afternoon…) Anyway, I’ll toast your collective health with a good glass of argentine wine later on. Hope next year I’ll be able to be in New York City again on this date & have a celebration of sorts after a long absence.

Probably just sitting down to dinner with my husband, my 6 yr old (who is a tornado of excitement because his brother and sister will be here) and my two oldest children, both taking the train in together from Wrigleyville, where they have apartments within a mile of each other.

Having dinner at my daughter’s house with about 30 family and friends. And giving some extra thanks that my son came home from his business trip to India a little over a week ago, my heart goes out to all over there and in all parts of the world that are not so lucky as us.

Just saying “thank you” and moving right along. My huge husband started what has become a very successful diet six weeks ago so we are sticking to it and staying out of temptations way! I am sitting here listening to beautiful music and giving thanks for the things that matter. And, that most certainly includes a huge thanks for this site and the opportunity to be in contact with some of the smartest and wittiest women of my generation. THANK YOU!!

Under the covers trying to get some sleep. I came down with a terrible cold tuesday. Today I called my sister to tell her I had no intention of bringing my cold as a gift for the family. I usually am regretting the fact that I had to give up the thanksgiving dinner 12 years ago. The family had just outgrown my house. This year I don’t know what I would have done, give them all my cold I guess. It is a nasty one.. Happy thanksgiving to all. Bev.

Since I just got home, I’ll have to write in past tense. At 3:00 today I was at a cozy little restaurant with my mother and my brother. It was a stress free day for all three of us. Mother had a rough stress test on Monday and just didn’t have the energy to go to the grocery, and she really doesn’t trust me or anybody else in her kitchen, so we just decided to go out. The place was jam-packed, so I guess we weren’t the only ones who saved money…mother said the groceries would have cost three times what the meals cost. And it pretty tasty fare.

AT 3:00 today I was on a 2.5 mile hike with a great girlfriend of mine and her friend Ben. I had just spent two hours playing pictionary with 8 people and nibbling my way across a shrimp and vegetable/fruit covered table. (Way too california for this east coast girl!) Where is the Dip!!!! I escaped to quiet as my son is with his dad for this vacation week and the absence of arguing relatives is a very nice feeling this year. I ate a very nice pork tenderloin with roasted sweet potato and broccoli. It was a great day! And no huge pile of dishes! Yea!
