I would like to see four faceless women of each color-there are so many wonderful, powerful women that it would be unfair to have a limit of just 4!

None. Not because women don’t deserve monuments but because I don’t believe the men who are there should be there either. I believe mountains should remain mountains and monuments should be statues, murals, and buildings. Any person of ahievement deserves their monument whether in material form or through tributes to their great work in terms of the gratitude of others.

This takes thought; however, off the top of my head I’d say: Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Rosa Parks and Robin Roberts. However, if I were to choose people few have heard about, but have touches lives in special ways, I’d pick, Laurie Faust, ExDir Open Door Ministries. She has hung in there providing for the less fortunate when others have quit, often alone filling and distributing bags of food, etc. etc. etc. Too much to mention. I’d add Jean Langan, a woman who smiles during adversity and touches so many lives with her humor and strength. I’d choose my mother, Norma Smith, because few new her strength and stubborness during my father’s long — decades long — illness. It was because of her he was with us for almost 76 years. And Connie Ziegler who is there for so many others, even when it is difficult for her to get around. She’s a constant help and inspiration.

Let us for once step back and not have to re-voice the already known accomplishments of all the famous women listed as answers to this question. Let us choose 4 beautiful faces of ‘all women’; the tiny hopeful baby face of a little girl just starting her journey as a woman; the eager young adult face of a woman learning about loving and being loved and trying to make the difficult choices about their careers, motherhood and their life partners; The slightly lined face of the middle age woman who has observed life and death and has held herself, her family and her friends together through hard times and danced with them through the joyful times; and last but certainly not least, the time etched face of the woman who has lived a lifetime and is almost at the end of her journey, dispensing hugs & life’s wisdom to her grandchildren, still vibrant and witty. She will be winking at that baby face on the other end of the monument and thinking “What a terrific ride you are in for! Enjoy every minute of it that you can!”
