GT—I’m not terribly concerned about the feelings of a man that dumps a crippled wife for a younger model and then calls the new one the c-word in front of reporters.
See, now, I see Mitt Romney as the Republican equivalent of John Kerry - all teeth and hairdo, about as substantial as cream cheese.
Romney was the valedictorian of his college, and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Business School. As the former Gov. of Mass. he brought the budget from a deficit to a surplus, and the school children in his state were ranked #1 in both reading and math. he knows how to get results. He’s been involved in international business for 25 years, and provided the funding and management to start Staples that created 15,000 jobs. His firm was the first capital firm to go into a failing company and provide management consulting to save jobs and improve revenue. Other capital companies have since adopted that model instead of the acquisition and sell model.
His public health care model is predictably not going well, because there is ALWAYS more demand than supply. Other countries get around this by rationing health care. The architect of the Canadian systems said the Canadian health care system “is in ruins,” and even pumping billions of dollars into it won’t save it, so they are going toward a private choice model like the US.

“Four decades later, as the chairman of a government committee reviewing Quebec health care this year, Castonguay concluded that the system is in “crisis.”
“We thought we could resolve the system’s problems by rationing services or injecting massive amounts of new money into it,” says Castonguay. But now he prescribes a radical overhaul: “We are proposing to give a greater role to the private sector so that people can exercise freedom of choice.”
“Castonguay advocates contracting out services to the private sector, going so far as suggesting that public hospitals rent space during off-hours to entrepreneurial doctors. He supports co-pays for patients who want to see physicians. Castonguay, the man who championed public health insurance in Canada, now urges for the legalization of private health insurance.”
I really didn’t need his resume, I’ve read all about him - still teeth and hairdo to me. Not sure how health care got into my discussion on cream cheese, but…ok.
Bella…….Thank you for your post. It was refreshing to read the words of a truly intelligent woman. I appreciate your posts. The more we read the more we learn — especially when posted by one of the more intelligent women on this site.
Lorraine……..Isn’t ‘Health Care’ one of the subjects talked about quite frequently on this site? I found what Bella had to say very informative. As for “teeth and hairdo — substantial as cream cheese” —I respectfully ask the question — “What does that have to do with his qualifications?
Because, much like John Kerry in ‘04, Mitt Romney is all about Mitt Romney - his image is everything. Qualifications be damned, he’s more about how he looks and how he comes off in public, and being well-liked, than substance. That, IMHO, is cream cheese.
bella, i agree with you that romney would be a good choice for mccain’s vice presidential candidate. i disagree about health care. we need a single payer system to save the administrative costs that are eaten up in insurance profits and the uncalculable cost of not covering people who need coverage.

GT— I don’t want anyone going into phony wars that I am completely opposed to—for ‘my freedoms.’ And John McCain does a good enough job of making himself look foolish without help from others:

GT….THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I agree with everything you have said and also find it rude and down right dirty on what they are saying or shall I say joking about on VP for McCain…Thank you!!!
GT—I have a dream….that one day America will have a president again that respects and obeys the Constitution….ie the one that forbids engaging in phony wars. My freedoms are protected by the Constitution that GWB refers to as a “Goddamn piece of paper.” And not by troops sent off to mass murder innocent civilians in phony wars for Halliburton, and in the case of Vietnam Brown & Root, LJB’s biggest contributor…oh and of course Brown and Root menas Halliburton too. You know? The one where Cheney is the #1 stockholder and knowingly started a phony war with lies and saw his stock increase over $26M.
Winery
Do you have proof that Cheney continues to be the number one stockholder of Halliburton? I thought he had to divest himself of his interests before entering the WH.
You know, I heard that he put things in a “blind trust” but that was ages ago, and I have since found references that he kept his stock options out of the blind trust because he thought they were in the nature of retirement or severance. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/09/26/politics/main575356.shtml I have no idea who their number one stockholder is.
John McCain also said that we won the war. Somebody please tell me what we “won”. I’m very clear on what we have lost so far.
Sorry, GT, but McCain set himself up for this game when he compared Obama to Paris HIlton and Britney Spears. My joke was just my little revenge.
