Dona…Better, thank you.
Lady G—-I posted later in this thread was thinking about you and the storm. Hope all is well….think I might have some vino myself tonight, so here’s to you!
OK ladies, now am really off to work….have to be able to afford a place to put all your guys when you come visit in France.
Frannie, I think you are wrong about Obama “pandering” to the Fundies. Sure, he wants the votes of those in the Christian Right who are disillusioned with the GOP, especially it’s war, environmental and economic policies. But sitting in front of that group and declaring that he is Pro-Choice can not be called pandering. He was there to state his case and did it well.
De Burca, BTW Obama is going to appear in front of the state capital in Ill with his VP choice….I guess that must make it the Gov of Ill…not my choice but c’est la vie….maybe when/if see her in action more will change my mind.
Biden said it isn’t him….then again it could be a fake…Obama’s from Ill of course, and will be in front of the Lincoln statue…..so….the guy knows how to build suspense.
Obama would never choose Governor Blagojevich! He is our most controversial governor ever… and that is saying a lot since our last governor is currently serving prison time!
And then there’s the name thing… Obama/Blagojevich lol can’t happen
Frannie Em: “… He was okay the other day with Pastor Rick Warren. …”
McCain did better than okay according to Byron York who says: “… As far as the crowd is concerned, it was clear that McCain was the favorite. That was hardly a surprise; at a small gathering I attended a few years ago, someone asked Warren how many of his parishioners voted for John Kerry. He thought for a moment and said 15 percent. So the conservative Saddleback crowd, while happy to see Obama in their midst, was not going to be on his side. What they wanted was proof that John McCain was on theirs, and that’s what they got.”
Majorie ——He (McCain) did better than OK. My husband and I watched the ‘debate’ with a party of people. There were approx 30 people present — Democrats, Rebublicans, Independents — black and white — old and young — fat and thin — male and female — wealthy and not so wealthy. Afterwards we all voted on the ‘winner’. It was McCain. A couple of Obama supporters stated that they thought Obama looked ‘lost’ with the questions and his answers were confusing. They also said that he took too long to answer. They were also quick to point out that they were impressed with the sharp answers from McCain. One young man stated that “Obama hit a double but McCain hit a home run on this one”.
Today I hear that some in the Obama camp are saying that McCain heard Obama’s answers — that he, in otherwords, ‘cheated’. I’m sure we will hear more of this before the week is over.
As for some of the nasty comments here — that is no surprise. We’ve all heard them before. The same thing over and over. I really think that they should convey the same courtesy given to them that was given on the question “Who should obama pick as his VP”? Maybe there were a few comments that all of them might have found distasteful — but the ones posted here go beyond the pale.
I have never in my life seen such hate and “downright mean” things said by both male and female. Some of the posters do not surprise me — I expected it of them, however this time, well, I find their discourse nasty and worthy of the gutter. And, I was really suprised and disappointed in the tone of their comments. I really thought this was a website for professional, intelligent, women — some of the comments on this particular subject aren’t worthy to be repeated in a ‘cat house’. Professional? Intelligent? I think not. As far as some of the men on this website — one in particular — there is so much bitterness in all of his posts — I truly worry about him.
If we are all going to continue posting on WOW I think we all need to come to some kind of civility on political subjects. Maybe they don’t like the candidate I prefer — I don’t like their’s — can’t we agree to disagree without sounding like a bunch of frauds masquerading as ‘professional intelligent women and men?
Example —-If their radio is turned up so loud it annoys others — can’t someone respectfully ask them to please turn it down a notch? I
would certainly hope so. Maybe, IMHO we need to try a little harder.
Lady Gator: “Obama looked ‘lost’ with the questions and his answers were confusing.”
It’s a well-known fact that he cannot speak clearly without a tele-prompter, a tele-prompter carrying someone else’s words and ideas. He isn’t presidential material in any way, shape or fashion.
As for the posters on this site, I skip the ‘regulars’. I pick one or two to fling a rock at, but that’s about it. I think the Duchess of Delete aka B. Nyce should post her rules again… unless the management is enjoying it.
Marjorie, not only did Obama looked lost but also he looked like a child on a school bench answering a christian priest!
sibelle: “…not only did Obama looked lost but also he looked like a child on a school bench answering a christian priest!”
LOL. He did look anxious, didn’t he?
Lady Gator
I don’t think McCain heard the answers, and it wouldn’t have made any difference anyway if he had. They are both very different politically. McCain knows that constituency, and is more in line with their views. As you know, Obama was first up and at the end of his hour, got a great round of applause. Yet when they brought McCain out with Obama on stage, the applause was louder and filled with cheers.
Lady Gator, I am not trying to disparage McCain with the ‘Okay’ comment. I have seen him at times when he was better. I like him. He, along with Jeff Flake (?) another really grounded guy from Arizona, have been fighting the special interests in congress. McCain has been at if for years, and is not well recognized for it. The hard part, is the media doesn’t show us much of McCain at the townhall meetings, to illustrate how much he does know, and how conversant he is on the issues. Lord knows he has been around a long time, he knows how things get done, who is really interested in solving problems, and where all the money has gone. I think he wants to correct a corrupt system, but knows it is the system we have right now.
If you put a liberal in front of a bunch of religio-right wingers your going to ‘lose’ and if bring John McCain to San Francisco won’t be heard over the laughing. I used to live in Newport Beach….for precisely one year. Was not a fan of Orange County it is super right-wing and was very uncomfortable. For the same reasons Bush won’t stick a toe in San Francisco.
