I am not addressing my communications to anyone. I am expressing my opinions and, unlike HRC supporters, providing supporting information as well as an alternative demographic/ethnic perspective I am aware some do not want to hear. That is WHY HRC is losing and will lose her Senate seat. A counter perspective has been offered by some WoWers, who are entitled to participate in their own way — including, but not limited to, asking for mine. The “arguing” I have observed comes from those who a) try to shut down free thought/expression that differs from their own — on the ultimate medium to serve the same — and, b) those who offer no alternative perspective beyond the subjective and/or attempts to control others. Perhaps a place to focus that kind of toxic energy and management — is to George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and John McCain.

The respect of others is the first rule of civilization. Overwhelming propaganda is intruding and disrupting the flow of this gentile site! Let’s not abuse the concept of freedom!

Women are one of the most undervalued segments of society in this country. Certainly, Hillary’s campaign has gone a long way to dispel the myth that women can’t lead. What I am really looking for in a Commander-in-Chief is competence and accountability. I don’t really care who picks up the red phone at 3 AM. I am much more concerned about who is capable of telling the American people the truth at 8 PM on national television. My last recollection of a President addressing the American people and taking the blame for a mistake was JFK after the Bay of Pigs.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if he took the next step and put the right plan before the American people? Wouldn’t that just be amazing?

Renata — Your opinions — as well as Frannie Em’s and Countrywoman’s and so many others on this site — are very welcome to me. I wish everyone would try to “listen” with empathy, respect, and a bit of good humor. It happens now and then here, and it’s those times that keep drawing me back. I am grateful to WoW. I hadn’t recognized how much I missed such talk until somehow I stumbled upon this place. Hate to lose this kind of community of like (and unlike) minds … … I’m learning, and I love that!

reply and a big :-) to anne sebastian (5/28/2008 9:16 PM) Your post is a breath of fresh air! It is indeed a privilege to listen and learn from each other. Please know I, and many others to be sure, value your voice in the chorus as well. Be sure to check out the post on the “gadget” thread from Maurine. (5/28/2008 4:12 PM) It beautifully embodies the spirit of this community, and I hope it is selected for the next “comments of the week.” Guaranteed to make you smile. Thanks, as always, for sharing.

Anne - Thank you. WoW can be a place for intelligent discourse from a multiplicity of perspectives that the original “feminist” movement did not reflect, and subsequently became dated/irrevelant — or, it can be a passing fad vanity play w/limited appeal, limited scalability and trounced by competitors who WILL embrace what the WoWers don’t. It is not something to be proud of that two weeks prior to last Friday’s justfiable uproar regarding HRC’s assassination rationale for remaining in the race — I really saw manifested as a matter of routine — on WoW. I challenged the inappropriateness and DANGER of socializing this kind of rationale and, to my amazement, was flamed — on WoW. Then, last Friday, decent Americans — and people worldwide — validated the TOXIC elevation of this kind of discourse. I am proud to have challenged it weeks ago w/in the WoW community — and will continue posting the case for focusing on what is important from my own perspective — until the Election is over, because much is relevant to the WoW demographic and hissy-fits will not provide a secure retirement for the 40 million boomer women making their ascent into an historically third age. Then, after the General Election — we’ll see! :-)

Hi Renata Happy to see your message, and I am especially pleased when others also let you know how much we value your contributions. I was trying to imagine recently how much less sense this would all have made to me without the benefit of your insight, and your generosity in sharing it with us. Re the “flaming,” I am so hopeful it is only a tiny minority, and perhaps they just needed the dangerous false comfort afforded by denial. Probably harder to maintain that state after the truth was delivered with such clarity. By the way, I am following your example and ignoring the alter egos/surrogates who post malicious and meaningless garbage. (Probably not really fair to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person anyway?) May blessings surround you, and our hope for the future as well. +~~

countrywoman - it has meant much to me that you have embraced what I have to say in my own distinctive voice. We’ve had a generation of people speaking with nothing of value to say — to one another — in a false voice — from stem to stern — across the entire spectrum of modern life. We are at the nadir everywhere we look because of the need for the minority to control the majority of moderate, thoughtful, fair and conciousness (dare I say “hard working”) Americans. The “flaming” or mooning others is a control mechanism I will not tolerate any longer. We have ALL tolerated it on our airwaves (FoxNews) and in mediocre, savage infotainment-as-news — as well as SAVAGE, demeaning entertainment evenings when we come home from work. We got to this place inch by inch, accomodating and adjusting ever downward. I expect more from the WoW Community than simplistic political discourse and/or a reprise of what we see on FoxNews. Peggy Noonan’s thoughtful Commentaries and speechwriting have elevated the discourse for a generation. We don’t share the same political point of view, but I view her talent as art. I also voted for Reagan, Giuliani, Pataki and Bloomberg — as a Liberal Democrat. We need thoughtful discussion as well as the lighthearted Q&A. If we don’t find it here, we will go elsewhere. The CELEBRITY as the hub of our culture is dying and it will take more than that to keep WoW’s Community relevant and meaningful. We are living our OWN lives and making our own choices/decisions about what is important thanks to the Internet. CELEBRITY can prompt, but as Katie Couric is finding out — it doesn’t CONTROL. Ditto, our out-of-control vs. moderate Republican friends. I concur w/your decision to ignore the ignorant. Barack does it beautifully w/out demeaning them — as you saw re his dealings with West Virginia. Very sophisticated MANAGEMENT of a situation and people who you respect, but don’t align with. This MANAGEMENT will help build bridges in Washington. What people have called arrogant is really CONFIDENCE. He doesn’t have to be right all the time. He can change his mind and/or pivot if needed — and, most of all, he can COMPROMISE w/out defaming/demeaning those who do not agree with him. We need a STATESMAN —no matter what the GENDER or RACE. One of my investors in my company, and a Board Member, helped create ET (Entertainment Tonight) eons ago. I knew something had changed in the zeitgeist when he no longer wanted me to tell anyone. He no longer saw as something to be proud of. He now sees it as one of the lynchpins of eroding our culture — as it was pre-1980. More than our politics is about to change. WE HAVE CHANGED. We can get the trivial and mediocre anywhere/anytime — GRATIS. Boomers are (finally) growing up — and not a minute too soon. Thank you, countrywoman, for your support and graciousness.

I spent 4 years in the US Air Force in the 80s. I saw many women capable of being commander-in-chief. I know Hillary does not have military experience, but then neither have our presidents except for Ike. I’m not counting Shrub’s pretend experience. I’m not putting down the Reserves, just W.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peggy-drexler/dont-vote-chromosomes-the_b_… Don’t Vote Chromosomes: The First Woman Must Be The Right Woman I was talking to a friend about the tortured persistence of the Clinton campaign and she said: “She needs to stay in. This will be the last chance in my lifetime to vote for a woman for president.” There are a lot of women of a certain age saying the same thing. And I can only ask: what? Could this really be the reason that Hillary polls best among older white women? Will we really vote for a woman simply based on the fact that she happens to be one?…
