Air Force Staffer Jailed for Inducing Wife's Miscarriage

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
An Army jury has found Scott Boie guilty of attempting to kill an unborn child after he slipped his wife an ulcer drug called Misoprostol, which induced a miscarriage.

Boie, an Airman 1st Class stationed in Alaska, asked his wife Caylinn to have an abortion after finding out she was with child. She considered it, but then refused, so Boie crushed up the pill and slipped it into her food, LifeNews reports. He was not, however, found guilty of intentionally killing the unborn child.

He will now spend nine years and six months in prison, and has been dishonorably discharged from the service, but faced up to 26 years in prison while on trial.

First how sad for this family. I do feel there should be some sort of contract that if one or the other parent does not want a child they can walk away without retribution. People should not be forced into parenthood and this is a sad case of if he signed a contract and could walk away maybe she would still be alive.

This is not about being "forced" into parenthood. He is a sick individual and it goes much deeper than anything that a "contract" can fix or avoid. Men that do these things do not want the financial or emotional ties to anyone but their own desires.

A contract does nothing when an 18 yr. old adult goes in search of their "father".  He was let off lightly. Perhaps he should have worn a condom everytime he had sex, if he never wanted a child. Hmmm…now there’s a thought. She should have had her own protection as well, if she knew his position on parenthood.

There is no saddness due his position. He is a sick murderer and deserves every day that he serves.

There is no substitute for Protection, if one engages in sex.

Absolutely. If you don’t want a baby, don’t make one.

Women lie too. Maybe she said she was on birth control and wasn’t. Maybe she knew his position and did it anyway. It is known to have happen. There a thought too.

Don’t know the circumstance, but women should pay attention if a man says he doesn’t want children.  There are always unforeseen times when protection fails but if a man doesn’t want children, a woman could end up a single mother.  Of course, the man should have a vasectomy but might feel he wants to be a father later in life.  But if a husband and wife disagree about children then that marriage is on a rocky road right from the get go.

I’m confused.  He asked her to get  an abortion and, when she refused, he crushed up and slipped this pill into her food.  She suffered a miscarriage as a result.  But he is found guilty only of attempting to kill an unborn child.  Seems like his "attempt" was pretty successful.  He is then found not guilty of intentionally killing the child.  So what exactly was he intentionally trying to do?

I do agree that both parties need to be on the same page when it comes to having a child but this article is vague on that point.  Did he maybe agree to have a child and then get cold feet after she became pregnant?

LOL, exactly. It seems that he was successful indeed. :P

Deena, the article makes it sound as though he was trying to badger her into the abortion decision. I agree with you - his attempt was successful and he knew the outcome he wanted. It makes you wonder why the jury decided it was a ‘lesser crime’.

Thanks, I thought maybe I was missing something.  I don’t get the lesser crime either.

Deena…I agree…his "attempt" was pretty damn sucessful.

This is what the acceptance of abortion has become, the devaluation of human life. Women have incorrectly thought of abortion as their right. But it is not. As this horrible situation examplifies, killing of an infant is ok…he didn’t want it, so HE did something about it. Why should it be just HER right…that’s what coming. Pretty soon, men will be able to sue for equal abortion rights.

Abortion is one big lie for women. It is not about our struggle for choice…the time will come when we will not have that.

Women need to wake up and protect their children as soon as possible, in the womb.

Sorry Kelly but you can’t blame this on legal abortion. Men have a long hsitory of violence against women regarding pregnancy; it may well stem from the notion that a woman’s womb is really his to control.

Hmmm, sounds familiar.

Deena,

You read it right! This is the most confusing article I believe I’ve seen to date.

Ok unless she lied to him about being on some type of birth control if he didnt want a baby then he should have worn a condom.  Dont leave it to the woman to always be responsible.  I think its sick that he would do this to an unborn child and glad that he has been discharged and hopefully will serve longer in jail for his murder.

For the girl, if she did do this on purpose, shame on her, she should be found guilty also b/c she knowling got pregnant and that is wrong.  You dont have babies to keep men…

This is quite confusing, as Misoprostol is an ulcer drug that is also give to women to abort a baby who has been declared dead by lack of heart sounds and untrasound. This will hasten their miscarriage so they will not have to continue carrying a dead fetus. However, it is accomplished by vaginally inserting the pills…not a pill,  but pills. There was little mentioned about ingesting this to accomplish the same thing. I am curious as to how a crushed pill  taken orally could accomplish what it takes several to accomplish  vaginally, bypassing the stomach.

Maybe that’s why the lesser charge — maybe they couldn’t prove he was directly responsible for the miscarriage, but could prove he intended to do harm to the fetus and could have unintentionally done serious harm to the mother.
