Candice Bergen Recommends Florence

Candice Bergen
I have been in some of the most romantic places on earth with some of the most contentious, argumentative guys, so I would say the spot is irrelevant. But before we married, my first husband took me to Florence and it was divino. It was my first time there and we left no stone unturned. In fact, I spent my birthday there and we sat in a small field on top of a hill and he counted 34 field daisies for me. My husband of nine years today is one of the last of the romantics and he really goes all out. He loves to plan trips, is a great traveler and travels in terrific style. And he is such an enthusiast that everything is exciting and fun.

If you’re with the right person, anyplace can be romantic.

By the way happy belated birthday.

My husband and I to celebrate both kids at college and being alone in the house went on our dream trup  to Italy.  Rome, Florence, Veince and ended up in Lake Coma.  Not only the most romantic trip but a great way to start our phase number of our life together.  Now retired I would give anything to duplicate that trip.

Living in Italy as a military wife, my first visit to Florence was for a weekend away with a group of about ten women friends.  I loved Italy in general but with Florence I was ecstatic!  It was my first time away ‘by myself’ and I had been very reluctant to leave husband and, especially, my daughter but he had strongly encouraged me to go, bring back a ‘review’ and then we’d return as a family.

The history, art, the sights and sounds… my totally romantic weekend was between myself and the city.  We did return as a family some months later and my "romance" continued…as it does to this day.  Some 36yrs. later I remain as passionate about suggesting Florence for honemoons, vacations and, if I could, would pack up and move there in a NY minute.  By oneself, with a significant other, the romance with this beautiful city isn’t a mere dalliance.

if you are with the right person, anyplace is divino!  Loved Florence! went with not the right person.. had a great time anyway! how could one not.. the beauty of Italy, the niceness of the people.. how could one not enjoy…

Loved all the places I have visited… always had a great time, regardless of the company..

I would still have to say that Cuba is the most romantic place in the world. However, I could go to the hardware store with my husband and be happy… I guess it’s all about love!
