Candice Bergen Talks Relationships, Dieting, Work and More

Candice Bergen
When we were younger, we’d talk about relationships. Having them, keeping them, finding them. Dieting. Work. When we were older we’d talk about the fruit of kept relationships: our kids, our work, politics. What we weren’t reading because who had time. Now, we talk about our kids, wonder what they’re doing, where they are. Our health. Our husbands’ health. Not minding not working. Politics.

Ah, we talk the same talk on the left coast (add dogs in there, too), but my friends are wondering if we will get to the point of not working. Thank goodness I have a job. I saw Wanda Sykes over the weekend, her baby was crying and she said yea, baby, my 401(k), <more crying sounds>.

we try not to talk about how concerned each of us is about our personal financial situation, and how we are going to find money to pay our mortgage, but it always creeps up; then we change the subject and discuss of ways we can find a solution. We just leave feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of the difficulty, but we dont give up and encourage each other telling ourselves, that we have been in more difficult places and somehow we managed to pull through… we do a lot of praying.

We talk about politics - a lot.  We talk about religion — from a theological perspective — we talk about the film, music, dance, fine arts and travel (in other words, we talk about Paris a lot).  We talk about grandkids, grandnieces & nephews, and we talk about why we continue to work in our 70’s — and it’s not just for economic reasons.

With my best friends, we talk about our health and that of those close to us.  We talk about the issues that may worry us that have to do with our grown children.  Pets!!!!!  Politics!!!  and whatever happens that day.. always something to talk about..
