Candice Bergen and the Concept of War
I saw those pieces in the Times and was very impressed by the level of competence and commitment shown by women. Especially when you think of 10, 20 years ago and how it was an insurmountable challenge for them to perform and be successfully integrated with men in the armed forces and in battle. And since our whole concept of war is completely transformed — it seems more and more realistic. There are very few incidents of rape. They should decline. Most of the objections have been removed. Not to mention, with a volunteer army, we are in desperate need of recruits.

What a shame we have not moved beyond the need for war. Like the line in the song says "War is not the answer…"
Reading these type of stories always brings back memories of those who didn’t come back from war.
And now we will have children who not only lose their fathers to war but their mothers as well.
Well I don’t know, maybe you can ask the Cubans what their deal was with the Russians on armanent for all these years. I think they got them for free so they didn’t even have to buy one. I have no idea where you got the idea that *sitting safely in your mansions while others die* is what war is about. No one has a duty to me. How elite of you to believe that someone has a duty to die for you. I’m sorry to burst your bubble about women and their masters. I doubt that sexual harassment is any more prevalent in the armed forces than it is in mainstream America. There are jerks everywhere who abuse women, even people who sit safely in their mansions cricizing our armed forces.
I agree with baby snooks. We should just move beyond the need for war. I’m thinking that if we disbanded the armed forces that all of the world would too. Thank goodness we finally have a president who will tell the world how sorry we are for all of the mayhem and foolishness caused by our war mongering past. I’m sorry for any man or woman who is forced by circumstances beyond their control to join our armed forces because they cannot do anything else productive in life and had no other choice. I fully support the troops but I know that they would never be doing what they are doing if they weren’t brainwashed by our imperialist past. And then they come home and they are all psycho and start killing civilians at random. Because they don’t know any better.
