Candice Bergen's Advice to Balding Men

Candice Bergen
Oy. The wig thing. I thought the buzz cut had replaced the dreaded comb-over. And wigs — wigs have come a LONG way. Trust me. They are almost invisible. Well, the insanely expensive ones are. But I always found bald men very attractive. Not ALL bald guys. But my husband, for example, is bald and I think he is the most elegant, handsome guy. What’s harder is the BALDING guys. With patches of not-good hair. Little wispy puffs on their heads. Not a good look. And to them, I suggest a buzz cut!

I agree, my husband is thinning fast, it is all that testerone, and he has never looked better.

A nice clean bald head is very sexy.  I agree buzz cut or nice clean and no hair. Sunscreen and moisturize. Padma Donais

I too, am not concerned about male baldness, I actually find it clean and attractive.  A comb-over is the biggest turn off to me or a rug (I don’t care how expensive).  I once accepted a lunch date with a man and as we were walking to his car, a gust of wind blew his hair and the comb over must have been a foot long blowing off the side of his head. UGH.  A man with so little self-confidence he has to try to be what he is not,   is not attractive to me.

Hey DT

You said it, I didn’t.

In this case I didn’t have to bite my tongue, I bit my fingers to avoid mentioning DT

Whew: It was not easy.

Lin, I’m not on the View and my names not Rosey so I think I’m safe, lol :)

Hey DT

For some reason they deleted your last reply to me something about "it happened to you too???? "

Maybe they deleted it in error?  Try again.

Lin, I said something like — It’s happened to me where I’d respond and my point of view wasn’t received very well, and then I’d get a bunch of nasty emails or not to happy response to whatever it was I’d said.

I’ve come to a point in my life where I feel I’m entitled to say what I want, where I want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone, or impugn someone’s name/person.  I think it’s called Free Speech.  But I’m tired of rocking the boat, so now I just keep it light :)

Deniseann, what did you mean by, "my names not Rosey.  I agree with everything Rosie said about "combover" and his hypocrisy.  She’s a great comedian.  Personally, I love The View and even though Barbara Walters has made piece with ‘The Donald’, not sure whether Barbara and Rosie are speaking.  There was no excuse for what he said about Rosie nor about Barbara Walters defending Rosie.

Carol, I was referring to the controversy by their statements back and forth,  unlike her anything I say about Mr. Trump won’t get national attention, When someone of her Position in the Entertainment Industry say’s something it gets attention, people sit up and pay attention, where someone like me who is just conversing with others on WoW no one’s going to care what I have to say.

Carol, as I thought about my response to your message, I realized I was making excuses for a joke I made, I’m not sorry I said it and I retract my excuse.  I made a joke about a famous set of people who made public spectacles of themselves on national TV, in the tabloids, if we can joke and make fun of others who put themselves out there, then what makes this any different.  If you don’t want the attention and people talking about what you said or do, stay out of the spot light and keep your mouth shut.

Those comb-overs are ridiculous.  How about the dye-jobs?  They seem especially noticeable on TV - too dark, or sometimes, as my husband says, "prematurely red".  Our son who is 40, gave up a few years old & shaves his head.  Of course he’s stunning (I’m The Mother).  :))

Some men spend literal fortunes on weaves and wigs and probably would do better spending it on a plane ticket to Australia for a procedure known as follicle transplant which is sort of electrolysis in reverse and which for some reason is not allowed in this country. Probably because of the lobbyists for the weave and wig industry.

Some men are sexy bald. Some men are not.  Most men would prefer not to be bald or balding. It’s not easy being green.  Or bald I suspect.

A good toupee is expensive and people have not got that kind of money anymore.  The wig business will rebound when the economy recovers.  My husband comes from a long line of bald men on his mothers and fathers side.  So far, into his 40’s, his hair is thick and greying.  Makes me kind of wonder who really fathered him.

A man who is bald or buzz cut and works out, not excessively but enough, a little time on the treadmill works wonders … well … that, for me, is very sexy … speaks of confidence and self care … two very attractive components.  Typing this at the local public library, overlooking the South Saskatchewan River, autumn here and cool … someone male and bald and fit would be nice to go home to … perhaps in time (smiling) …
