Do you think Jackie Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy had an affair?

A new book by C. David Heymann alleges that RFK and John’s widow had an affair after JFK’s assassination. Do you believe it’s true?

Probably.   I think Bobby was a horn dog and for Jackie it was payback.   She had done everything right in their marriage, behaved with class, dressed with taste, and created beauty wherever she went in support Jack’s career not mentioning having two children and the pain of a miscarriage.  How did he honor her gifts and sacrifices?   By trying to get a piece of anything attractive which came into his relative vicinity.  Letting guys like Sinatra pimp for him and then expecting her to entertain him with grace and good manners.   I am sorry for the extreme language but he did what he did, the record is there, and so did his brother.

I wonder if her mother knew about Jack’s rep before the marriage. Supposedly her mother was steering her toward a highly prestigious marriage. What might have been hidden, overlooked, or ignored? Jackie seems to have been obedient toward her birth family in many ways.  She certainly married down twice in a character sense, rich and famous though they might have been.

Anything is possible, I suppose, but I will not be reading the book, and I choose to not believe the affair occurred.  The main characters are not here to defend themselves, and this is just one more smear campaign their children and grandchildren have to endure.  What a shame that the author doesn’t seem to care who gets hurt in his quest for the proverbial 15 minutes of fame.

I kind of always suspected it. Ethel didn’t like Jackie, in fact, the Kennedy women (Ethel was an in-law and joined them), made fun of Jackie. But the Kennedy men liked Jackie. Both JFK and RFK had affairs. So it’s possible on many angles. But after all this time, why bring it up?

It’s easy to write dirt about people who are not around to confirm or deny the rumors. A book on speculations?  Why? Doesn’t matter how Jackie, Bobby, John, John Jr.,etc.  lived their lives. The past is past.. who cares?

Yes, James - money is the number 1 factor.  Thanks for your tip, regarding the use of sunblock, to keep mosquitos at bay, on the thread about swimwear.  Will be thinking of you, next week, at U of M.  Patty

How many really care?  I truly hope whatever money this man got for writing this book he has to pay it back b/c nobody buys it.

Sex sells.  Of course people will buy the book.  I prefer my historical romance novels to be a bit more historical, but this falls into the category nicely.  Jackie was a smart lady.  If Ethel didn’t like her, I can’t think of a better reason than not liking a girl who figures ‘If he’s gonna play, why the heck shouldn’t I play too?’.

The Kennedy’s continue to fascinate, for whatever reason.  Easy to believe that this happened.  No way to prove it.  Jackie was the smart one.  No interviews, no letters, no journal, no tell-all book.  She kept herself as an enigma.  Wish all these other folks would take a page from her book.

It is cheap journalism to smear two people no longer around to defend themselves. Who cares if they did or didn’t? I’m concerned about the familes left behind that have to cope with the aftermath of this book. Can’t they be allowed some decency and privacy?

Jeannot,

I don’t think Young people are interested nor do they care.

I’m an Old woman and I certainly don’t care.

I hope the book sit’s on the shelves and ends up in the dollar store……..

Jk I agree, after all these years who the hell cares? How does it change anything at this point in time?

And so what if they did, is it not their lives? Why is it our business? Why not worry about the things of importance in our own lives.

Ps
