Liz Smith: Tells All to Doctors, Not Friends
In response to: Are there things you would never tell your best friend, but would tell your doctor? And vice versa?
Sure, I’d tell my doctors anything because it’s in my best interest to do so. But I don’t think anybody tells everything even to their best friends. My best friends are long suffering and patient and, besides, they already figured out whatever it is I am not telling them.

There have been things I have only told my doctor and things I have only told my best friend but then there have been other things I would never have told my doctor or my best friend but did tell a gossip columnist who has never betrayed my confidences although my best friend, now my former best friend, did. In the end, I guess, if you can’t trust your gossip columnist, who can you trust?
I suspect you all know more secrets than the CIA although of late you probably keep them better than the CIA does.
