Man Saves Ring After Gravity Interferes on Brooklyn Bridge

Most engagements are memorable, but this one may take the, ahem, wedding cake.

Don Walling brought girlfriend Gina Pellicani to the Brooklyn Bridge to pop the big question, but things went awry when the ring fell onto the road below the footpath. Obviously not looking to lose that investment — or his girlfriend — Walling mustered his gumption and climbed below to retrieve it.

The entire scene, well, caused a scene. Thinking Walling was looking to commit suicide, the cops came on down and tried to stop his dangerous descent down the bridge’s steel beams. Once he had convinced them he was on the level, the cops stopped traffic and helped Walling retrieve the ring. Phew!

When he climbed back up, Walling slipped it on Pellicani’s finger. He was quick to point out on this morning’s "Today" show, however, that he did not drop the ring: "I didn’t drop the ring. It fell out of the box. I didn’t drop it. There was no handling. We should really contact the makers of the box and get a better box made. That’s the whole problem here."

As for Pellicani, the incident only made her love Walling more: “He does crazy things all the time, but this is definitely the craziest thing he’s ever done,” Pellicani told "Today" host Ann Curry. “Now he’s given me even more of a reason to love him." Ain’t love grand?

What an idiot. What good is a dead fiance. If this man uses such poor judgement before this couple marries, what kind of poor choices will he make in the marriage? The worst part about it is that the girlfriend now he has given her "more of a reason to love him"….pathetic!!
