At least three people are dead and 30 injured in Mena, AR, after a tornado swept through the region Thursday night.

The storm with "high winds" and "hail the size of apples" also seriously damaged 100 homes and ten businesses in the city, which is located about 145 miles west of Little Rock, reports local radio station KTTS 94.7.

This morning, 50 members of the Arkansas National Guard began assisting local officials to sort through the debris, provide 500 meals to families and account for the 5,700 residents of the city.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

For all my friends and family in Mena.

I send you all my hope and strength in the days ahead.  From Saigon, Vietnam, I’ve followed the news of Mena’s suffering.  May I add my voice of support to all of you.  Be gentle with yourselves and each other in the coming weeks and months.  My heart is with  you each day. Love from Mike and Alicia Smith’s Mom, Marylynn SmithKenefick, "Grandma Smith"

God bless you all and be with you. I dearly love, Mena and have been wanting to relocate there. When I was always there the people were friendly and such a nice town. So, now I cry for the tragedy. It was and will be a beautiful place again. By Mary Kay Mitchell- Sulphur Springs, TX. 4/15/09
