Mr. wOw's Hair-Raising Shriver Report

What’s distracting Mr. wOw from paying full attention to what Maria Shriver is saying?

I love Maria Shriver. She is genuine and smart and one of the great Kennedys — I wish she could or would take her late Uncle Ted’s Senate seat. I watched her all weekend and into Monday, hawking her new study, "The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Changes Everything." She is impressive. And the study is vital reading. But … her hair.

Kill me for the shallow Mr. W. I am. I know she said wonderful and important things about women in the workplace. Yet, despite her eloquence, I could not stop gazing at, contemplating her auburn mane. It is enormous. It’s Raquel Welch’s old hair on steroids. It has a life of its own. And quite a healthy, vigorous life, if one assumes — and I do — that it’s all Maria, and there are no nasty Britney-like extensions woven in. Perhaps because the always-slim Maria is now even thinner, her hair just looks more overwhelming. I’d advise trimming it, or battening it down somehow, but over the years that forest of follicles has become something of a trademark. Would we even know who Maria Shriver was if she sported a simple pageboy or a modest flip? Anyway, those majestic cheekbones and that firm iron jawline need a backdrop. It doesn’t work, really. But it does. You know what I mean.

To be perfectly honest, Mr. wOw is rapidly balding, and holding on to what’s left in a most undignified way. To look at a full head of hair is both a torment and a nostalgic pleasure. Maria Shriver supplies agony and ecstasy.

Ya… I don’t agree. I think she looks great and don’t think it’s distracting at all. that’s one of those super subjective things.

The fine for talking on a cell phone in Los Angeles is over $200. Maria Shriver was caught on video talking on her cell phone while driving. Should she have to pay the fine for that infraction?

To Anais: Maria Shriver is drop dead gorgeous. Her hair looks amazing. she is a true beauty.

I too love Maria Shriver and wish that she’d return full-time to public life.  She’d get my vote for just about any office.  As for the hair I’m sure it is all hers - there are a few Kennedy’s dealing with follicular challenges as they age but Maria inherited the same hair gene as Uncle Ted.  I doubt that she has to go to great pains with it - other than a looong drying time.  She has a big round (or is it square) face with strong features and she’d look bizarre with short hair.  Short thick hair can be a giant PITA to manage.  Love her hair just the way it is.

Dearest Mr wOw,

I also love Maria. She is a witch with extensions! Forget the workplace, she could hypnotize a flock of "Austrian Vampires", en route to Frisco, while Herman Monster explains to the Americans that anything is possible in Amerikka!

Like in the Kennedy Tradition, Maria is talented at bringing "Agony and Ecstasy" to the public!

Thanks for the fun.

Maria Shriver like most women in public life must have alligator skin.   She has the courage to be what she wants to be and manages to accomplish some good for the country and women also.

She is her own woman.   Is there a "hair" law that requires women over 40 to cut their hair?

I have hair envy - I admire luscious manes .  Her’s is gorgeous.

Thank you starry Nite, I’ve been reading these posts in amazement.  My mother raised me to believe that it isn’t what you wear or what you look like, it is who you are inside that matters.  We tell our young children this daily - be your own woman - and then we whisper out of the side of our mouths, yeah, but omg, did you see her hair?

Maria Shriver may not be the most traditionally beautiful woman, but she carries herself with such courage and confidence, she is quite beautiful.  She’s over 40, she likes her hair long - big deal.  I’m amazed that there are so many people obsessed with the physical that they can’t hear her words because they don’t like her current hairstyle!

I have unruly curly locks and I have gone from hairdresser to hairdresser over the years asking for help - I’ve finally decided that I’ve been trying to meet everyone else’s expectations.  No longer…

I know that most of you don’t mean any harm, but truly, it’s people like a lot of you here that make people like me self-conscious.  Why can’t we just be ourselves while accepting each other for that fact?

Hello KatyDid - from one curly to another I determined long ago that it is best to bow to the curl.  Have you tried velcro rollers on the front and top?  The vast majority of hairdressers are a clueless mess of all-thumbed gibbons when it comes to styling the curls.

Thanks, E, I’ll keep it in mind, but I gave up curlers, curling irons, and even blow dryers years ago.  I found that the more I do to my hair, the more out of hand the curls get.  Wash, condition, then some kind of product in it to keep the frizz down and then I just have to let it dry naturally and try my best to not touch it as much as possible. (Mr. WoW and friends would have a lot to talk about if they ever saw me on a windy day!)

One of my favorite movies is Somethings gotta give … the dinner scene with Keaton et.al. … where Jack Nicholson discusses Diane Sawyer in terms of her great legs and is roundly drubbed (sp?) by all, this Shriver hair discussion sliding into that area.  Of course, Mr.Wow could even out the playing field with a few words about The Donald and that comb-over-on-steroids sitting on top of his head.  Just a thought …

Dear Harriet…Mr. Trump’s attempts to do whatever he thinks he’s doing have been well-documented. His hairs do not distract me because even if I close my eyes and listen, nothng of interest comes out of his mouth. Miss Shriver on the other hand is smart, articulate and doing good. Her hair is fantastic and in watching her so much recently, it was on my mind. It’s her style, she should stick to it.

Mr Wow, I have to agree that I have puzzled over Maria’s tresses!  I admire Maria’s work with Project Alzheimer’s as my 92 year old father suffers from the disease.  The subject is big hair though…my thought is where was that hair when she needed it?  It could camouflage several cell phones!!!!

This is my first time to your sight…it was fun!
