Megan McAllister abandoned her engagement ring as she tries to move on with her life after yesterday’s visit with her fiancé, Philip Markoff, the accused Craigslist Killer. McAllister spent roughly 25 minutes with Markoff inside Nashua Street Jail, in Boston. Until yesterday, McAllister, 25, has been defending her fiancé to the press — saying that the police had the "wrong information" and Markoff "could not hurt a fly."

Now, the young woman’s attorney said that McAllister, also a medical student, is taking Markoff’s charges more seriously.

"But she’s a very bright, articulate young woman, and she’s beginning to understand that she has to find strength from those around her and from those who support her," attorney Robert Honecker Jr. told WBZ-TV. "I think this was a big step for her to realize the seriousness of the charges her fiancé faces. And also that she has to get on and take care of herself and the rest of her life."

"They had a candid, frank discussion about what has transpired and the events which will transpire in the future," Honecker said.

Since Markoff’s April 14th arrest for the murder of Julissa Brisman in an upscale Marriott hotel in Boston, McAllister has been staying at her parents’ house in New Jersey. McAlllister and Markoff’s August dream wedding has been canceled.

I feel very sorry for Megan McAllister. In the long run, she is better off that this side of his personality came to light now and not after the wedding and children. Nevertheless, I’m sure there are dark days ahead as she questions her instincts and how she ever allowed herself to be manipulated by this man.  Hopefully, she will emerge in tact and confident that she is able to move forward and face the future with strength, conviction, and empathy for others — traits that will serve her well as a future doctor.

It’s bad enough that she was sleeping with this psychopath and defended him, but to have her every move and words thrown in her face, and to be pursued agressively by reporters is unforgiveable. She made the mistake of trusting her fiance…what normal person would not initially blindly support her mate. Put yourself in her situation. Luckily, she has had a chance to process the information and maybe he confessed to her during her jailhouse visit with him, such that she has made the right choice to cancel her wedding and hopefully break it off with this guy completely.

It’s very sad for her, but thankfully she is not in denial and will soon get on with her life.

How devastating that must be to be so close to someone and not really know him at all.
