Having read all the comments so far, I am somewhat surprised at the strong negative reactions. I responded early this morning under Shelia Nevin’s posting in a humorous vein, reacting to the thread’s question as a definite quirky kind of thing. Obviously, for many, this is not the case. And I’m wondering whether, given the heated political times, we may be very sensitive to the idea of "offing" whose euphemistic wording stirred up feelings of anger and disbelief. Perhaps a bad choice, but it did, as I think Karen mentioned, make us think about how we really feel about a person, a group, or in my case, a dog, saying off handedly, "Man, oh, man, I’d like to do [your picks] in." What makes us all individual is how we "take" things, what our views are on a range of subjects. I’m thinking here of last week’s winning caption, "Hi, I"m Fritz, and I’m an alcoholic." This brought many outraged posters accusing Wow of being insensitive to alcoholics. I said then that when we can’t laugh at our and others foibles, then it becomes a sad day, indeed. Whether this example falls into the category under discussion, I’m not sure, but what I am sure about is murder in any guise goes down like a lead balloon.

What is going on?

Our President gets insulted.

Serena Williams displays the worst manners.

 And now WOW is asking a question that, in my opinion, has no place here……

 I am old enough to have seen that eventually people get exactly what they deserve.

 I prefer to let the justice system do the work……

Everything has consequences.  Not that there haven’t been those unbidden "urges to kill" for me.  Offhand I can recall a red-hot reaction to my mother-in-law, my husband, a boss, etc.  I might have, with no retribution assured, thrown a brick.  A bang on the head, yes.  Murder?,..probably not.

HOWEVER, I don’t know that I could restrain myself, if I happened to have a weapon, and came across someone torturing a child, or an animal, or an old person.  I would probably shoot first and feel later.  But that’s not really murder, is it?  That’s defending the innocent. 

And, frankly my dear, if that’s offensive to anyone, I guess I don’t give a damn.

The child abusing, animal abusing populace could go in a heartbeat, and good riddance to ‘em one and all. And I reserve the right to lump them into one "super group" thus leaving two more selections.

The greedy, unethical, unbridled super-egoistic Wall Street, big banking crowd that got us into our curren t economic mess could also go, taking with them the nasty detritus of their excessive lifestyles: the $6,000 shower curtains; the million-dollar birthday bashes; the custom-designed private jets and yachts - all could go and good riddance. (You, too, Ruth Madoff. This applies to YOU!) 

And last, but certainly not least, those dictators and oligarchs whose brutality and repressive tactics cause fear, panic, disease and death every day. Go. And please: let me be the first to flip the "OFF" switch and rid the world of their noxious presence. It would be a real pleasure!

(And if I had a bonus round, I think I would hit the OFF button and get rid of all the self-righteous, moralizing, "family values" politicians of any and all party affiliations, nationalities or cultures who turn around and speak from both sides of their mouths. The ones who quote chapter and verse, uphold all the solid virtues of love and family, and then take off for a steamy weekend with the "soul mate" du jour! And who then quote chapter and verse when they are exposed for the liars they are, and find immediate forgiveness because God just loves a sinner redeemed. Hmmmmm. Well, I kind of think that depends upon how the word "redeemed" is defined. In many cases "redeemed" may be translated into "Ooops. Got my booty caught in public! Let’s backpedal like crazy!" So yes, this little group would be my "extra round" in the great OFF Game.)

And how very cathartic this exercise has been! I don’t know about you, but I feel a lot better for having OFFed a bunch of very nasty types. I just hope someone else isn’t including 60-something women with a lot of opinions on their OFF list: if so, this may be my last post, wOwers!

Susan, I completely agree that politicians who pretend to be family men and cheat on their wives are reprehensible but  I didn’t wish Ted Kennedy to die.   You may have hastened his death with your bad juju wishes.  Bill Clinton and John Edwards better stay out of your juju range. 

Actually, I agree with the first poster.  Would I be happy to hear Osama Bin Laden was found and killed in battle…you bet.  Other than that I really cannot think of anyone I would want to kill or have killed.  Want to be humiliated and cast away by polite society…yes.   And I do support the death penalty for heinous crimes but I am not going to go all vigilante and  say I would execute people without due process. 

Weird topic.    I almost think the persons posing the question  were hoping some crackpot would come on here and say something really unforgiveable like wanting some politician whose views they disagree with to be shot and killed.  If that was the motive, I guess Susan satisfied it.

First of all I have to say I find the Topic reprehensible……..disgusting………Certainly doesn’t belong here on Wowowow……………..What are you people smoking or ingesting.

Sophisticated wealthy women who approved of this Topic need to make an appointment with their Psychiatrists.  

I’ve had the utmost violence committed in my family……..a daughter in law murdered…………two grandchildren kidnapped. (never to be found)

I don’t take this subject lightly or find any humor what so ever.

I also value and respect myself enough to never want to stoop to the level of the people who commit these violent acts. 

To say I’m disgusted is really not indicative of the way I really feel.

But it’s as polite a way of expressing my feelings toward the decider of this inclusion.

I’ve been complaining along with many other posters recently to the downward path Wowowow and it’s staff have taken.  What once was a wonderful, powerful, positive place for women to share thoughts and exchange Ideas.  This in my opinion and from what I’ve read so far by many other posters here today is the lowest of lows………………..

When the Market crashes you heard terrible sounds all around……..

I hear and feel a crash is eminent if things don’t radically change back to the positive on wowowow.

Please don’t disappoint all of your faithful writers……..

We will miss having a place like Wowowow to communicate.

If some smart entrepreneur is reading today, they are already creating a new and glorious place for we women.
