I don’t have a lot of close friends but my very best friend is my husband. We sometimes make each other crazy but we both know each other very well. He knows when I am happy and is happy with me, he knows when I am troubled and helps me work through it. He’s the only one I can really talk with about almost anything. We’ve been through a lot together over our 30+ years of marriage, and I know we always will be there for each other.
My husband and I are truly best friends and a day doesn’t go by when we don’t laugh together - heck, after all these years, he still makes me smile just by walking into a room. It’s wonderful to have a relationship that stays positive and pushes past the day to day garbage that often drags people down.
I remember once, many years ago, talking with my first husband about friends. When I said that he was my friend (I can’t remember if I used the word "best" or not), he looked at me quizzically and said "That’s odd… I’ve never considered you a ‘friend’ - yes, you’re my wife and I love you, but I don’t know that I’d call you a friend!" I can’t remember when anything hurt me as much - I knew then that our marriage wouldn’t last.
One thing about other friendships though… I have had several wonderful friends (mostly women) over the years, but I have also moved a lot in my life, which has made keeping those friendships (or forming a deep bond) always difficult at best. I keep in touch with a few, but with time and distance, we’re not what I’d consider "close". As I age, I’ve also found that making those friendships in the first place has become difficult for me. I’ll admit to being a bit of a hermit, but when I go out, I’m gregarious and friendly, and yet I can’t seem to break through and make friends with people. Most people my age are busy in their lives and seem to already have friendships established. I would enjoy having female friends and I’m sure it would be healthy for me as well, but I can honestly say that I don’t have one close female friend that I could call and have lunch with, and haven’t for some time. I miss that…
My best friend is my husband, which alas, is now living in a different state from me, but we contact each other just about every day. Miss him deeply and are trying to make plans for me to come to the same state and be with him.
I would have to say that my best friend is also my sister…we have a great relationship and I can’t think of anyone that could replace her as my best friend. Friends come and go but sisters are there forever.

Diamond,
; Too bad wowowow didn’t have a category asking if your pet was your best friend! Bet a lot of us would have made different choices.
[PS Jake’s precious!]
My Father used to say "If you live to a ripe old age and You’ve had one true friend You are a lucky person".
Friends have come and gone but the Truest of all friends has been with me from the age of two…….
My Sister. What a gift from God she has been in my life.
Through thick or thin she has been there.
Fun times which are numbered in the Thousands………
Sad times which have been many……….
Quiet times to renew our Souls…….
No matter what transpires in my life She is There ………
I respect her…….admire her and love her beyond words.
Her name is COZY………..isn’t that a wonderful name (my Mothers name also)
