Can a pit bull be sexy? When his charming eyes can twinkle on demand, we’ll bite. Edward Turner III was born on November 19, 1938, in Cincinnati, OH. The son of a domineering father (who owned the then Turner advertising company), Turner went to Brown University to please Dad, despite his own wishes to attend the Naval Academy. But the rebel didn’t make it to graduation; he was expelled for entertaining a woman in his college dorm room. He inherited the family business at the young age of 24, after his father committed suicide when faced with the company’s financial struggles. Turner’s bold and aggressive leadership style turned the company around, and also led him to his many financial successes (along with his very public titanic brawl with News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch). But perhaps his sexiest move was in 1997 when he pledged $1 billion, the largest single pledge in philanthropic history, to the good-works program of the United Nations.
