My mother had breast cancer. Supporting this cause has always been important to me.

Yes. Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is one of the charities I have pledged to. (The other are Shriners Hospitals for Children).

A close friend of mine lives in the New York area and will be walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I have contributed $ in her name. And it has inspired me to really get involved. I live in rural Michigan and will find a more accessible event. Neither of us has had this horrible cancer, but so many friends have. We are all involved in this together, women and men!

I support the charity.  Also, I have pink luggage tags in logo form and a cap with the logo.  Yesterday I saw collapsible, insulated pink coolers near the check out at the grocers.  Nice reminders any month of the year of the seriousness of this dreaded disease.

I’m going to make a special donation this year in honor of a dear friend’s sister who just completed chemo. Her sister is in her forties and developmentally disabled, so it was especially heart-rending to see her undergoing surgery and chemo, both rough processes. But she came through beautifully, and in her honor, I want to give to the cause. Here’s to all women, to good health, and to the breast cancer warriors!

I participate in Relay For Life every year.  My mother sponsers a booth and we all do our share of walking and fund raising.

As a two time Breast Cancer Survivor I always participate in one way or an other.  This yr my Son and his friends are having a concert and all the money will go for research at Bethesda Naval Hospital.  My daughter and co workers are walking in my name (silly shirts, lol).  I’ve convinced all my female siblings to get Mammogram (only one is under 40), I went and got the Brecka test (not sure of the spelling) to see if my cancers were genic or not, thank God they weren’t, which means I did not pass the Gene to my daughter and son.

When I had breast cancer in 04/05 I went through it with no family  (siblings and mother) support of any kind, my friends were there for me 24/7.  I left NY to get away from my family because of who they are and how they are and worse of all how they live their lives.  I had cervical Cancer in 82/83 while I was pregnant with my beautiful son, (he’s strong and healthy), during this bout as with the Breast Cancer my family never even called.

If anyone I know ever gets any form of Cancer I will be there to help them through it and try to be the strength they need.  Trust me you need someone strong to be there for you, I thank God for my BFF of 38 yrs she was my strength every step of the way, and my children they were there for me when I needed them.

Sorry didn’t mean to write a pity note, just a very sore/frightening topic for me.

To all those fighting, survivors, God Bless you and know were all fighting for a cure.
