Beth Levine: An Influential Designer's Life in Shoes (Photos)
Manolo Blahnik once said, ‘Beth Levine is without a doubt the most influential American shoe designer of the 20th century. She is to shoes what Eames is to furniture.’
Beth Levine (December 31, 1914 - September 20, 2006) was designing stunning shoes long before Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo became household names. In a glossy new tome, Beth Levine Shoes, author Helene Verin pays tribute to one of the pioneers of feminine footwear. High-profile women — including First Ladies Patricia Nixon, Lady Bird Johnson and Jacqueline Kennedy, as well celebrities Barbra Streisand, Shirley MacLaine and Marilyn Monroe — have donned Levine’s divine designs. Here, wowOwow pays tribute to “the first lady of American shoe design” with this photo essay of stunning images of fabulous shoes found in the book.

Love the name of those… Ballin’ the Jack! Wonder if our creator had a story behind those names?
I love all of these. It’s interesting that virtually any of them could be very stylishly worn today even though they were designed in the 1950s and 1960s. I love the lavender color of the first pair. I’m kind of drawn to the kabuki shoes. Very simple but with the right outfit I think they would be stunning.
